Optimistic Clifton Cubs eye strong football season

Clifton High School head coach Don Hennig predicts a great season as the Cubs, though small in numbers, show high spirit. The 42-player roster includes new seniors and juniors amid a favorable district move and positive Magazines notes. Season tickets go on sale August 18 with five home games listed and prices set.

Clifton Receives 2673 Dollar August Tax Check

State Comptroller Bulock reports 659 cities and towns received August sales tax rebate checks totaling 14.5 million. The year to date rebates reach 173.1 million, with Meridian 1276.27 and Valley Mills 698.19 receiving August payments. Field audits in July uncovered 18.3 million in additional state revenue, including 15 million from field audits alone. In-state audits yielded 11.7 million, out-of-state 3.3 million, with total enforcement gains 88.6 million for fiscal 1976 so far.

City tax revenues exceed estimates after July receipts

City Secretary M. R. White told the City Council last week that property tax collections totaled 78 375.69 as of July 31, ahead of the 77 600 estimate. Higher receipts come from delinquent taxes and new construction like the Clifton Bank building, though exemptions for disabled veterans reduce some income. Age and disability levels determine exemptions.

City to set tax rate and budget at September council

Mayor Jim B. Smith prepares a municipal budget for submission to the City Council. The council must adopt the budget before setting the tax rate and ratio. The meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday September 14.

Clifton Independent School District trustees plan a budget hearing for the 1976-77 year at Clifton High School after a teachers reception. Bids for Clifton High roof repairs were heard from R J Reagan Co Inc Waco 47691 base deduct 3429 alternative 1, B B Developers Burnet 44250 base deduct 4000 alt 1, Johnson Roofing Waco 36000 base deduct 3000 alt 1. The panel bus driver wage rises to 100 monthly, route extended about 16 miles daily. Other drivers stay at 150 monthly. Temporary CHS roof repairs completed and Clifton Elementary roof repairs noted. Talbert Williams of Waco will audit CISD accounts.

Sanitary landfill search continues for Bosque County

Mayor Jim B. Smith told the City Council that a sanitary landfill site for Bosque County communities is under study. He noted EPA regulations, planned roadside vegetation trimming to improve driver visibility, and that the Leon-Bosque RC&D Project committee will review potential sites and assess existing facilities.

City to provide in kind police photography gear

The City Council approved providing fingerprinting kits and 35mm cameras for patrol cars to match a Law Enforcement Assistance Administration grant. The Heart of Texas Council of Governments will seek the grant, with in kind services avoiding cash outlay. The gear will be used for investigative purposes.

Sedan Hits Dirt Pile in South Ave. Quake Block Collision

A 1964 four door sedan collided with a dirt pile in the 200 block of South Ave Q at 11 17 p m Thursday. Police Chief Alvin James reported the vehicle was heavily damaged and the driver declined hospitalization.

City grants face renewal as officer’s CETA pay ends

Mayor Jim B. Smith says the CETA grant funding the Clifforr police officer will expire in December but is expected to be renewed for another period. He also notes Basque Senior Services nutrition program may be funded for one to two more years and that the city will continue to manage program accounting and provide space.

Clifton July rainfall and year-to-date totals

July rainfall in Clifton reached 5.70 inches as reported by J B Darden Jr. For the first seven months of the year the total precipitation stood at 32.65 inches.

Swine flu shots to be given in Bosque County

The county will deploy a five day swine flu inoculation program with about 12 000 doses. Clifton site options include the Civic Center or National Guards Armory while Meridian Valley Mills and other communities will host the remaining days. Hutton elected mayor in Cranfills Gap vote

A. G. Hutton won Cranfills Gap mayoral election unopposed with 43 of 58 votes. Larry D. Simmons was chosen city marshal with 51 votes. Aldermen elected without opposition include James Grimland W E Wimberly Larry Wayne Anderson Juanita Bushee and Mrs Harold Wiese.
