A police chase near the bank leads to several arrests in a shoplifting case in Bosque County. Reporters note timely coverage hinges on officer cooperation and steady newsroom effort, warning would be criminals to avoid the area.
First graders will register from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday August 30 at Clifton School. Parents must present a birth certificate and an authorized vaccination record for tetanus diphtheria whooping cough and smallpox. If not immunized for smallpox, parents have ten days to complete the vaccine.
James Lee and Carroll Knudson announce the merger of Gap Implement Co Crawfish Gap and Bosque Equipment Co Clifton to a new 15 acre tract 12 miles south of Clifton on State Highway 6. Construction to start soon with auction moved to October at the new facility.
Bosque County schools prepare for fall term with new schedules and staff. Valley Mills will start Tuesday September 3 with buses and lunch service on opening day under new superintendent C E Davis from Gordon Texas. New teachers include Larry Hawkins from Crawford teaching 7th and 8th grade math and Gay Yankie from China Spring for 5th grade.
Clifton's Blue Sox claimed the State Runner-up trophy in Monahans Texas, losing 7-2 to a San Angelo hitting surge after earlier wins over Belton 8-7 and Monahans 12-7. Pitchers Randy Kleine and Rusty Penter bowled solid relief.
Clifton Civic Improvement Society to host a turkey dinner with all trimmings on Friday August 30 during the 1968 Central Texas Fair and Rodeo. Only Civic Society members will supply food for the one day event with planning led by Mrs. W. F. Key Jr., Mrs. Walter C. Hansen, and Mrs. W. L. Gauntt.

Clifton Cubs football season kicks off with pre season drills under UIL rules starting August 19. Coach Aubrey Roberts will issue shoes and socks Wednesday at 5 p.m. A team meeting for 56 hopefuls is planned Sunday August 18 at 3 p.m. to set two a day schedules and go over roster basics.
Clifton police report Sunday burglaries at Central Texas Lumber Co and Clifton Livestock Commission Co. Total cash taken from the lumber yard ranged from 27 to 30 dollars with checks untouched. The office was entered via a rear window and the cattle operation was ransacked but no merchandise vanished. A hose nozzle was broken and gas stolen from City Barn. Officers suspect juvenile or amateur culprits and pursue leads.
Misdemeanor shoplifting charges were filed against three men and two women arrested in Clifton last Wednesday afternoon. All were released on $500 bonds from Bosque County Jail. One man Caro Galbiati pleaded guilty in County Court, was fined 250 and warned for enhanced penalties on any future Bosque convictions. Others released on bond included Charles Weir Skyles Harold Ozona Kreiter Madlaine Sims and Mary Favors Sparks.
Two Clifton clubs join the Meridian Jaycees and Lions Club tournament at Meridian Ball Park. Preliminaries set for Wednesday and Thursday with finals Friday and Saturday. rain could move games to Sunday. Meridian and Glen Rose open Wednesday night. Clifton Wilson’s and Zachery’s teams draw 8:30 p.m. matchups. Crawfills Gap faces Clifton Outlaws Thursday at 7 p.m. Two trophies will be awarded. all are invited.
