Texas Deers Will Likely Stay No. One State For Hunters

Texas Parks and Wildlife biologists say deer numbers should stay near average this fall despite dry pockets. Last year’s kill exceeded 290000 from a herd over 3 million, with a mild winter preventing a major die-off. Fawn crops look strong in Central Texas while South Texas sees thinner numbers but forage recovery raises hunting hopes. Regular seasons run from the Saturday closest to November 15 to January 2 with licenses for residents at 3.25 and nonresidents at 25.
