Meridian to Build New Gym at Meridian High
Meridian plans a new $70,000 gymnasium at Meridian High School with construction set to start around September 1. Superintendent Walter B. Parks Jr. says plans are drawn and the project aims to finish before the January conference basketball race. Voters approved $70,000 in bonds and a tax-rate boost from $1.25 to $1.50 per $100 valuation, both passing by large margins 205 to 55.

Plane Crash Near Glen Rose Kills Two
A light private plane crashed on the Bill Pruitt Ranch about three miles south of Glen Rose killing the pilot Herman Richard Buzbee of Waco and his passenger Jasper Louis Bowers of Waco. The victims, both in the used car business, died at the scene and funeral services were held Thursday.

Mrs Marie Reesing Larson age 86 of Fort Worth died August 3 at All Saints Hospital after a ten day illness. She was born in Norway and survived by her Clifton born brother O B Reesing, widow of Louie Larson who died in 1951. Funeral held August 4 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev S B Knudsen. a full obituary is planned for next week.

Graveside services were held for Marion Duke Cox 17 at Morgan Cemetery after an August Sunday car crash near Gilchrist. He and companion Donald Suthard 21 died. two Dallas men were critically hurt. Cox, a Lamar Tech student, resided in La Marque with his mother Mrs Dorothy Cox. Services were led by Reverend Charles Williamson of Beaumont. Surviving Cox are his mother, a brother Marvin, and his maternal grandmother Mrs L R Duke.

Mrs Will Manske aged 82 years 7 months 23 days died 1 10 pm Saturday July 30 at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home where she had lived since April 27 She was born December 7 1877 in Osowo Germany and came to the United States in 1884 Her family settled in Independence Texas later moving to Crawford Clifton area She married Will Manske February 18 1901 and had four children Edith Hildegarde Arnold Velma Her husband died January 27 1936 She had lived on a farm near Clifton before moving to 1102 West Pecan Street in Clifton around 1948 The obituary notes her Lutheran faith and longtime residence in the Clifton area.
