Polled Hereford Group To Have Annual Picnic

The Central Texas Polled Hereford Association invites members to an annual picnic on Sunday August 4 at 3 PM at the VFW Post Home in Clifton. Plans for the 1983 Central Texas Pulled Hereford Show and Sale in Clifton October 31 to November 2 will be discussed and the sale entry deadline is August 15 to prepare the catalog.

Annual HD Council Picnic Set in Clifton Hall

The Bosque County Home Demonstration Council invites the public to an annual picnic in Clifton City Hall on Thursday August 15 in an air conditioned dining room. The program begins at 10 00 A M with song and devotional led by Mrs Hannah Belcher REA Home Economist from Stephenville who will demonstrate Using Small Electrical Appliances. At 11 30 A M lunch is served then at 1 30 P M the group reconvenes for a Flower Arrangements demonstration by Mrs Ales Seljos of the Clifton Floral Company.

Clifton Firemen Attend State Training School

Jierold Kettler and Andrew Mc Fadden of the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department attended the State Fireman and Marshal's Training School at Texas A M College College Station from Sunday July 21 to Friday night July 26. Also from Bosque County last week were Wallace Burns Valley Mills and W B Cotten Dorman Alton Oswald J M Ferguson and Ben K Butts of Meridian. Mr Dorman served as one of the school's instructors.

Outgoing Cattle Shipments Rise in Bosque County

Cattle shipments from Bosque County increased last week with 26 rail cars loaded at Clifton and shipments from Valley Mills. Raymond Smith of Coyote sent 11 carloads to Greely Colorado by rail. Dry weather and scarce water boosted sales via auction rings and local buyers, with many tanks dry and grass short.

Assembly of God Welcomes New Clifton Minister

Reverend Meador and his wife and four children from Fort Worth have moved to Clifton to serve as pastor of the Assembly of God Church. Former pastor Reverend Gilder and Mrs Gilder have relocated to Denton for college, while Reverend Gilder remains employed in Fort Worth.

Bosque County 4H Camp Dates At Reddy's Retreat

The Bosque County 4H Camp runs August 5 to 7 at Reddy's Retreat on Lake Whitney. A guest night on Tuesday August 6 will invite parents and social guests. The Community Public Service Company provides barbecue supper at 7 30 PM and 441 members present a camper program.

The Legion Auxiliary of Post 322 in Clifton installed its 1963 1964 officers in the City Hall dining room with flowers and corsages. Mrs Thelma Pires, 11th District President, led the installation. retiring president Mrs Hill received a parting gift. dinner followed. Next meeting set for August 15 at 7 30 PM.

Local Resident EF C Bergman Dies After Illness

Clifton Bosque County mourns Edgar Clinton Bergman 71 with 7 28 days, who died July 26 after worsening two days earlier. He lived on Route 2 Clifton and was interred at Our Savior Church Cemetery Norse after services at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Norse. He was a Daniel Baker College alumnus and former Texas League baseball pitcher and county umpire. He married Blanche Anderson in 1916 and left two sons Eben Clive and John William and two daughters Leta Faye and Martha Ann. one son John William died at birth.

Downing Brothers Win Clifton Street Paving Contract

Downing Brothers of Waco received the street contractor job for Clifton paving. Clifton voters previously approved 45,000 dollars in bonds for the street improvement. Downing Brothers will later send another crew to pave along curbs and driveways for residents who sign up at the City Office.

Clifton Braves Sweep Last Three Wins and Tournament Schedule

Clifton Braves, a young men’s baseball team, have won three straight: 17-1 over Clifton Colored on July 23, 7-4 at Crawfills Gap on July 27, and 9-1 at Hamilton on July 28, with an unfinished game completed for a 21-? score. They host two games with Meridian Baseball Camp July 30 and August 1 at 7:30 PM. The second annual tournament runs August 14-17 with Clifton Braves vs Clifton Colored on Aug 14 and a full four-day schedule ending with finals on Aug 17.

Wegner Joins Service Drug as Clifton Prescriber

On August 1, W A Wegner owner and registered pharmacist of Corner Pharmacy in Clifton for 27 years joined Service Drug Store as pharmacist after Service Store bought Corner Pharmacy's prescription department. Corner Pharmacy files move to Service Drug for refills, while Mrs Wegner runs the front shop including the bus station fountain and regular drug sales.

Wreck Wednesday injures two in Crossroads collision

At 6 39 P M Wednesday a two car crash at the Crossroads Garage on Highway 219 west of Clifton injured cattle buyer Johnny H Johnson of Hamilton and Mrs Marvin Porterfield wife of a Church of Christ minister at Hico. Johnson had a broken leg and other injuries while Mrs Porterfield sustained a broken ankle and rib injuries. Patrolman James Wright said Johnson attempted to pass a car when the collision occurred. Both cars were badly damaged.

Parade Kicks Off Meridian Rodeo Weekend in Downtown

Meridian gears up for a two night amateur rodeo on Friday and Saturday with a downtown parade at 5:00 PM and grand entry at 8:00 PM each night. Trail Blazers of Stephenville perform while riders compete in bareback calf roping bull dogging cow milking cutting horse ladies barrel race and bull riding. Producer L. J. Eggs and grain prices listed with eggs 30¢ a dozen for large A 30¢ doz medium and B 25¢ doz pullets 15¢ doz cracks 12¢ doz. Grains oats 75¢ bus milling wheat 1.85, spring wheat 1.60, barley 90¢, milo 1.85 cwt, yellow corn 1.22. About 850 cattle offered. prices steady with last week except butcher calves and plain yearlings 50–75¢ lower. Cattle ranges cited for steers, yearlings, calves, cows and bulls. hogs reported 16–18.40.
