Clifton Black Sox captured the District 2 title in the Texas Freshman Tournament held in Clifton. They went undefeated, beating DeLeon Mexia and Robinson, with extra inning thrillers and key hits by Hoel Heff Wallace and Covey. Braune and Owens contributed on the mound as Clifton edged Robinson 2 0 in the final ninth inning comeback.

Man from Clifton Wins Nassau Trip In Nationwide Contest
Calvin Rueter of Star Route 1 Clifton won a seven day Nassau trip for two in the National LP-Gas Market Development Council sweepstakes. He will leave August 19 staying at Montagu Beach Hotel to enjoy sun and Calypso music while exploring Nassau. Allen Alford and M V Stafford notified him of the win. Rueter had only signed his name earlier this year to enter.

Queen Contestants to Appear on KCEN TV Broadcast
On August 12 1963 Bosque County Farm Bureau Queen and Little Miss Farm Bureau contestants will appear on the Clark Bolt show KCEN TV Channel 6 Temple. The Bosque County Farm Bureau Queen and Little Miss Farm Bureau will be chosen on August 22 at the National Guard Armory Clifton. Contestants may still enter until the TV date. Mrs. Hal Gill Dies in Meridian at 50
Mrs. Hal Gill 50 of Meridian died in a Meridian hospital on Monday afternoon August 5 after a long illness. She was born Wordna Benson April 27, 1913 and married Hal Gill November 9, 1940. She served First Methodist Church Meridian on several committees and was active in church florals, hospital auxiliary, and garden club. Surviving are her husband, mother, two brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was August 7 at First Methodist Church with burial in Meridian Cemetery.

Bernard Erickson son of Mr and Mrs John Erickson Route 2 Clifton left for Houston to train for the Texas High School All-Star Football Game at Rice Stadium Friday night part of the 31st annual Texas Coaching School. He is Clifton High’s first All-Star invitee and will play tackle on the North team after earning all state honors and leading in field events. Bernard has a football and track scholarship to Abilene Christian College and is described as a strong student leader. His older brother Ernest is a Baylor football player.

Clifton Driving Club Forms Aims For Drag Strip
The Clifton Driving Club organized its first meeting on Saturday July 27 with about 30 members. Officers include Emil Schwartz president Larry Benfer treasurer Lloyd Walsleben secretary James Zander safety inspector and John Tom Gillaspie reporter. The group seeks a safe drag strip and invites new members and donations to fund construction with police cooperation.
