Local Guardsmen Return Sunday From Jump School

Twenty five members of Clifton First Rifle and Weapons Platoon of the 143rd Infantry Division Texas Army National Guard train at Fort Benning Georgia for airborne wings. They are expected to finish this weekend and return via James Connally AFB to Clifton.

Stunt Pilot Set for Central Texas Fair Finale Aug 31

Central Texas Fair official Homer McDougal announced Waco stunt flyer Mike Frey will perform about 30 minutes of aerobatic maneuvers in his home built plane over Clifton Golf Course on Saturday afternoon August 31 the fair’s final day. Frey built owns and pilots the red and white by wing aircraft with inverted fuel and lube systems. He has flown since 1948 and recently appeared at Fort Worth Oak Grove Antique Fly-in.

Nine traffic wrecks in the Clifton area over six days produced high property damage and a few injuries. Notable incidents include a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 174 injuring a family, and wrecks at Ave G Mary Street and 15th Street with varying damage levels.

Three Fires Hit Clifton Area Including Pickup Trucks

Clifton's Volunteer Fire Department responded to three fires from Saturday to Monday two involving pickup trucks. A Wiley Pierce pickup burned heavily at 919 N Avenue I on Saturday. A grass fire near Murt's Lodge on Lake Whitney was controlled by residents on Sunday. Monday morning a pickup bed fire near FM 219 and State 22 ignited hay and tires due to a hot exhaust pipe. Fire Chief George Harris urged extreme caution as rainfall and green grass mask fire danger.

Mrs Jones to Head Local Eggers Campaign in Bosque

Mrs Jones will head the Eggers campaign in Bosque County as chairman for the Texas gubernatorial race. Eggers praised her work and noted the short time before voters choose a new governor. Mrs Jones, a Clifton housewife, belongs to the First Presbyterian Church Civic Improvement Society and Magazine Club.

Three Nursing Students Set for Hillcrest Training in Waco

Three local nursing students Linda McMillan Patricia Chambers and Fran Henkelman will begin training to become registered nurses at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco on August 29. They recently attended Hill Junior College as the first of three years to qualify as RNs. The final two years include academic work and on the job training at Hillcrest.

Local Texas Invincibles Run Vacation Bible Schools

Thirteen college students called Texas Invincibles are conducting Vacation Bible schools this week in six Baptist churches Willow Springs Morgan Mosheim Cedar Shores Oak Grove Valley Mills and Smith Bend. Sponsored by the Sunday School Department of the Baptist General Convention of Texas they work in teams of two or three for boys and girls ages three to sixteen. The schools end with parents night Friday Aug 2 and one team will stay to help Valley Mills First Baptist with a mission school next week.
