Nearly 200 vehicles carried about 600 persons through the C. & Olsen ranch Sunday afternoon for the Spring Bluebonnet Drive. Mr. Olsen reported 132 cars in the first group and about 60 more in a later run, with autos averaging three or more occupants.
Cubs cindermen total 52 points for fifth at Denton regional meet with two qualifiers for Austin state meet. Wayne Prescher won 440 in 49.0 seconds. Glen Haywood second in pole vault at 12 feet. Clifton Jaycees vote to face Clifton High School teachers in a donkey basketball game set for Saturday night in the Clifton gym. Jaycees cite teachers’ basketball skill, while one spokesman doubts the teachers will accept. An editorial note promises a teachers' response next week. The group also plans upstairs remodeling of the Farm Bureau building for a regular meeting space.
Clifton Civic Improvement Society members meet at 3 p.m. May 1 in City Hall dining room. Elmer F. Luckenbach will speak as administrator of Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Members will bring gifts for residents. Hostesses are Mrs. A. R. Fricke Mrs. Frank J. Spangle and Mrs. E. A. Priddy.
A record 97 boys ages 7 to 14 signed up for Pee Wee, Freshman, and Sophomore baseball in Clifton. Doug Railsback, president, notes this marks the largest pre-season sign-up. A special meeting Friday at Clifton City Hall organized by M Finstad will plan league play and attendance from Meridian Valley Mills and Crawfils Gap.
Forty five Central Texas beauties compete in the 16th Lake Whitney Pageants with junior and senior titles contested Friday and Saturday nights in Whitney gym. Judges include C C Risenhoover and Roger Whitehurst plus D L Larance and others. Tickets brisk. nearly 2,000 seat capacity with floor chairs.
Six classes from Clifton Elementary perform Thanks America in the annual Clifton PTA Spring Festival tonight April 25. The event funds local school projects with a 6:30 p.m. sandwich and drink sale and an 8:00 p.m. performance featuring fourth to sixth graders, with high school students aiding as choir members, stagehands, and ushers. Tickets are 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students. Refreshments will follow in the cafeteria.
The annual Coon Creek community homecoming will be held at the Coon Creek Church on Sunday April 28. An all day singing is planned with a noon dinner and everyone is welcome.
Meridian Baptist Association schedules an Evangelism Sunday School Conference at Crantills Gap Baptist Church on Monday April 29. The host will serve supper at 6 p.m. WMU and Executive Board meet at 5 p.m. Three Dallas guests speak on evangelism at 7 p.m. All Southern Baptists in Bosque County invited.
Mayor O. E. Pierson proclaims May 1 1968 as Loyalty Day urging citizens schools churches organizations and businesses to display the U S flag and join patriotic activities with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in cooperation with others. City Secretary M R White attested.
Tomorrow and Saturday April 26 27 are the dates for a big high school rodeo sponsored by the CHS Future Farmers Chapter. Roland Reed will produce the event with trophies and ribbons for high point individuals and teams. Admission is 1.25 for adults and .75 for students at the gate.
Clifton High School Cubs Varsity baseball defeated Valley Mills 8 to 4 on Tuesday. Pitcher Gary Anz credited with the win. Coach Buddy Ables’s team will play two home games next, hosting Glen Rose and Itasca’s nine on consecutive dates.
Owen W. Sparks was installed as commander of Clifton's Robert E. Binford Post 8553 VFW on Thursday April 18. He succeeds Doyle Hulme with Byron Fallis Joe Hinson Doyle Hulme Jodie Amundson Jerry Godby Erich Herzog Ibrey Linberg elected to key posts. District Convention set for Clifton May 18 and 19 hosted by the post.
