Cubs capture District 13A Track title in Waco meet

Clifton High Cubs score 209 points to win the 1964 District 13A Track Meet at Paul Tyson Stadium in Waco. They win eight events led by Ronny Thomas new district mile record 4:43.2 and include sprint and mile relays with contributors Thomas Traylor Pullin Ralph Fredenburg and Everton. Joshua and Clifton rivals clash as regional qualifiers loom at North Texas State University in Denton.

Clifton High School band members will attend an annual banquet at 7 30 p m Tuesday night next week April 22 at Lavenders Cafeteria Waco The event features Baylor University students as entertainment and changes the timing of awards to a later date Band parents plan to invite four guests including the district superintendent and principal and will cover transportation and meals for parents attending

Jaycees To Host Special Political Program in Clifton

Clifton Junior Chamber of Commerce will meet at 7:30 PM on the 28th in City Hall dining room for a special political program. State Representative candidates J. E. Ward from Somervell County and J. R. Birdwell and Roy Giddens from Johnson County will address the group followed by a Q and A session. Public invitation extended.

Cubs Top Glen Rose In Season Opener

Clifton High School 1964 baseball opened with a 10 to 1 win over Glen Rose in a seven inning practice game. Cast included Gary Fredenburg Jerry Allen Ronnie Sinderud and others with Allen pitching and Linderud driving in three runs on a bases loaded double. A rematch is set for next Tuesday at 4:00 pm and a two week district double elimination tourney will be played at Cleburne starting May 4 against Alvarado.

Death Notice of Anton Amundson

The Clifton area mourns Anton Amundson 73 of 1314 West 5th Street Clifton who died Saturday night April 18 at Temple McCloskey Hospital after six weeks observation and two weeks in Temple. He served in World War I with duty in France Germany Belgium and later farmed near Clifton. He married Clara Christenson and leaves wife Anton, daughter Mrs W B Lenderman Jr of Lufkin, three grandchildren, three sisters and several nephews. Funeral held April 20 at Trinity Lutheran Clifton with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Flower Show Highlights Clifton Garden Club Event

Clifton Garden Club hosted its tenth annual Flower Show titled Texas Our Texas at the National Guard Armory on Thursday April 16 from 3 to 7 PM. Legion Here Will Host 11th District Convention in Clifton

Clifton's Selmer Erickson Post No. 322 will host the 11th District American Legion Convention on April 25 and 26. Registrations begin 3:00 PM at the Clifton Legion Clubhouse with a dance at 8:30 PM Saturday. Sunday features a joint session at the National Guard Armory with welcome by Helen C. Aars and Judge Frank G. McDonald as guest speaker.

Clifton Auction Reports Steady Cattle Market Prices

Approximately 400 head were offered with packer cattle steady and stocker prices 50 percent lower. Good to choice steers and yearlings ranged 19.50 to 22, calves 20 to 22.50, stocker steers 21 to 24, butcher cows 14 to 16.50, hogs top 14 to 14.50. Also listed are eggs and grain prices.

Clifton High Names Top Seniors in 1964 Class

Richard Spitzer is valedictorian with 93.39 average and Derril Wenzel salutatorian with 92.90 for four years at Clifton High School. Four other seniors posted averages above 90, including Helen Wiederaenders Morris Jackson Rosemary Thompson and Carolyn Ann Lee. Baccalaureate set for May 24 and commencement May 26 at Bettis Auditorium with Reverend Erwin Knitt delivering the sermon and Dr. W Lamar Fly as speaker.

Post Office to Cut Parcel Delivery and Saturday Money Orders

Washington orders limited postal service changes to save 12.7 million dollars. Clifton and other cities will see parcel post delivery reduced to five days a week and Saturday money orders discontinued. A consolidated window will handle stamps parcels registry and COD on Saturdays.
