Walter S. Gifford, president of American Telephone and Telegraph, mails a statement to stockholders reporting a Bell System first quarter net loss of 38 500 telephones. March shows a gain of 2 500 afterJanuary and February losses. Total revenues for the quarter are about one percent below 1730 but higher than prior years. Plant additions and improvements total about 105 million, stockholders rise to 580 000, up 12 000 this year. Earnings per share stand at 2.51 for the quarter, down from 2.96 a year ago.

Meridian Creek students rush to finish work before vacation. The play The Dutch Detective is in rehearsal while primary pupils prepare a closing program. Declamers visited Hillsboro for a district meet, placing fourth despite strong competition. Meridian Creek beat Norse 22 to 14 and faces Cooper at home Friday. League results last week list turkeys creek 16 harmony 13 Mustang 17 Cooper 7 Meridian Creek 22 Norse 14. Honor roll features multiple grade students. Primary room report pending for next week.
In Pottsville, 11 miles west of Hamilton, Gromatzky Bros. mercantile store and the local post office were robbed early Saturday. Deputies pursued two men and a woman after a stolen car was abandoned near Hico, with a second vehicle used to flee toward Fort Worth. About $300 in cash and PTA funds were taken. no suspects or clues are known.
Mrs Myrick mother of Mrs J M Bettis received a surprise birthday dinner Sunday at Mrs Bettis home. Attending were W T Sansom Fort Worth Henry Jet ton Mertens J F McGuffey and sons Edwin MecGuffey Joe Blakeny McGuffey Hubbard Herbert Keathley and family Corsicana Hayle Dunaway and daughter LaTyrelle Italy Dudley Patterson Brandon plus the Bettis family. Two sons W W Sansom New Orleans and J M Sansom Dallas could not attend. Three daughters one son five grandchildren two great grandchildren and in laws were present. The great grandchildren lit the candles on cakes marking Mrs Myrick’s eighty one years. Clifton friends extend many wishes.
Lars Larson born October 14 1874 in Odalen Norway emigrated to the United States in 1900. He lived in Norse then Clifton, married Anna Hagen August 17 1905. He died April 19 after care at a Waco sanitarium. Funeral April 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He leaves a wife eleven children plus siblings.
School progresses toward May eighth closing with pupils preparing pieces for the closing day program. The Womack PTA meets May 380th for its last session of the term inviting all to attend. High school teams rehearse Mammy's Irish Rose under coach Mueller for a May night performance with no admission fee.
