Seven Track Field Records Set At Cub Relays In Clifton

Clifton hosted the Cub Relays on April 13 with standout performances from Class A and B high schoolers. Midlothian led with 83 points, Santa Anna second with 50, Boswell third, Clifton fourth, Valley Mills fifth and Wills Point sixth. Joe Thompson of Reewell Fort Worth paced individuals with 23 points, setting records in the 440 yard dash and broad jump along with multiple relay records by Midlothian.

Miss Dorothy Ann Brown an English teacher and assistant Dean of Women at Texas Lutheran College Seguin spent the Easter weekend near Clifton with her parents Mr and Mrs Milton Brown. Also joining the Browns was Mrs Browns brother Lauris Huse of Houston.

Clifton High to Compete in Regional 2A Track Meet

Clifton High School sends 11 boys to the University Interscholastic League Regional 2A Track Meet at North Texas State University in Denton representing District 13-A. Listed are Bernard Erickson Glenn Murphree Jerry Allen Larry Pullin Gary Swenson Richard Spitzer Ronnie Thomas plus relay squads and other sprinters. Clifton also enters three boys in the Regional Tennis Meet with Buddy Cox in singles and Bart Townsend Stephen Rester in doubles.

Aunt Lina Weber services held in Yoakum

Mr and Mrs Walter Anz and Adolph Schulze attended funeral services for Mrs Lina Weber aged 95 near Gonzales. The rites were at 2:00 PM at the Burlington Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs Weber was aunt to the Anz and Schulze families and sister of the late F Schulze of Clifton.

Bosque County mourns Laurenz Lou Solberg 87, as funeral services led by Chaplain Walter Gigstad were held at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel. She was born February 3, 1876, in Norse, married, and long affiliated with Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse.

Defendants Plead Guilty Sentenced in Meridian District Court

Four defendants in Meridian District Court pleaded guilty this week before Judge Truman Roberts after a jury panel was called but not used. Jimmy A. McMillian received probation and a fine for a second offense of driving while intoxicated. Kenneth Leroy Meadows and James Daniel Barfield admitted burglary in J. R. Ganns’ house and drew prison terms. J. H. Burgamy faced a drunk driving charge with a probated sentence under adult probation law.

Clyde Rowe Dies Funeral Held Here

Clyde Cooper Rowe longtime Bosque County resident died at Whitney Hospital on April 10 1963 after a long heart illness. Funeral at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel April 12 with Rev Calvin Holbert officiating. Burial in Clifton Cemetery. He left a large family including wife two sons a daughter eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Cancer Crusade Volunteers To Canvass Clifton Residential

Mrs. H R Hill Clifton chairman of the American Cancer Society 1963 crusade in Bosque County announces a canvass of Clifton residential and business sections next week to raise funds. Over 200 volunteers will call on homes and businesses with T N Foster directing the business drive and Hill coordinating residential efforts. Volunteers meet at Clifton City Hall Monday at 10 00 am for material pickup and begin canvassing Monday or Tuesday with several named local supporters already pledging aid.

Interest Mounting Over Wheat Certificate Program

One of the heaviest farmer turnout is expected for the Tuesday vote on the What Certificate Program to address the wheat surplus. The program is opposed by the American Federation of Farm Bureaus with the Texas Federation active in opposition. Farm Bureau groups plan talks to explain pros and cons in upcoming meetings including a Bosque County gathering where Ed McKay spoke in opposition.

Farm Bureau opposes Wheat Certificate Plan in Bosque County

Ed McKay and J D Jordan of the Texas Farm Bureau voiced opposition to the Wheat Certificate Program at the Pasque County Farm Bureau meeting in Iredell. They warned that government control could expand to other crops and livestock, urging support for personal initiative and free enterprise. Public meetings across Bosque County will explain the May 21 referendum to 493 wheat growers, with sessions in Clifton Valley Mills Comanche and Waco among others.

Twin sons born to Clifton couple pass away shortly after birth

Oscar Meadors Jr and Mrs Alvildia Casey Meador of Clifton welcomed twin sons on Sunday April 14 in the local hospital. The infants died shortly after birth and were buried in Clifton Cemetery after a 3:00 PM service on April 15. Relatives visiting Dallas last week included Will Hafer and Paul Schwartz families, plus Arthur Wentz and his son Mike from San Antonio.

Mrs Allison Olson Ill at Local Hospital Since April

Mrs Allison Pete Olson of Star Route 1 Clifton has been undergoing tests and X rays at the local hospital since April 12. Doctors and Bosque County Farm Bureau staff hope she recovers quickly and can return to her work.
