Mrs Maurice Callan Dies in Rotan From Heart Attack
Mrs Mewrice Callan age 29 died of a heart attack at her Rotan home Friday April 5. She and Dr Maurice Callan served at the Goodall and Witcher Clinic Hospital Clifton between December 1955 and March 1956. Services were held April 6 at the First Christian Church Rotan. She is survived by her husband three children and her parents Mr and Mrs Telford Lear of Rotan. Dr Callan’s parents Cy and Mrs C C Callan also live in Rotan.

Clifton High twirlers sweep Region III contest at McGregor
Seven Clifton High School twirlers competed in the Region III Twirling Contest in McGregor last Saturday. Five first division blue ribbons were awarded including Helen Wiederaenders as the sole individual blue ribbon winner. An ensemble of four Clifton members also placed first, while several others earned second division ratings and one fourth division rating. Janet Schrantz and Lavonne Eggen are freshmen. Cindy Harris is a sophomore and participated in her first contest. Mrs. P. O. Dahl has improved after heart treatment in the local hospital.

On Monday night April 8 Clifton swore in mayor elect E Stevens and council members Calvert G Helms and Homer McDougal. The retiring mayor Charles Misenhower and council members were present. A petition to reinstate police chief George Robinson was discussed and rejected unanimously. Stevens named department heads and a water rights representative for May hearing with the Texas Water Commission. The old council completed extending the city limits westward by two blocks into the C Q Show addition results in more land West Hackberry and the Lammert property becoming part of Clifton.
