Records Fall At Cub Relays Despite Wet Weather
Clifton High School’s new cinder track hosted the Cub Relays with about 20 schools fielding athletes. Erickson Clifton set a shot put mark of 52 ft 10 in, Nelson Connally ran 4:53.2 in the mile, and Connally Bangs clocked 45.4 in the 440 sprint relay as records. Connally won the meet with 1081/3 points, Bangs second with 97, Clifton third with 67, and Richland Springs fourth with 55. First-place event winners included Erickson in discus, Blatt in broad jump, Mosley in pole vault, and several other top performances across track events.

Clifton contestants earned spots at the Cranfills Gap Future Farmers Horse Show held April 8. James Lynn Kelly rode Miss Flanahan to third in Children Under 12, Claudale Kelly placed second in Sweetheart and third in Teenage on Miss Flanahan, James Lynn Kelly won Children’s Barrel Race and placed second in Pole Bending on Flaxie, and D A Golden finished fifth in Men’s Barrel on Norma.

Wind Gust Snaps Shed Crashes Into Cars in Clifton
A Tuesday 4 30 P M wind tore a portable shed from Wilson Building Materials and hurled it toward Highway 219 battering two parked cars owned by O C Anderson Clifton and B P McLaughlin Waco. Each car sustained about 1000 dollars in damage.

Bosque County 4-H Members Advance To District Contest
Twenty four boys and 18 girls from Bosque County 4-H Clubs will travel to Stephenville for the District 8 4-H eliminations on Saturday April 15. Contests occur at Tarleton State College and surrounding buildings to host seven to eight hundred contestants. Parents and agents accompany the group as they depart the Meridian courthouse between 7 30 and 7 45 A M. Agents will judge some events and results will be reported next week.

Fire West Of Town Does Little Damage
A large fire in the Norse area burned about 100 acres of cedar and brush late Tuesday, but caused little damage. It crossed land owned by Glenn Ringness and Allen Grimland, with a backfire saving a new fence though 60 feet were lost. A herd of goats nearby was unharmed.

Meridian carpenter age 32 dies when he falls from a cabin cruiser during a sharp turn on Lake Whitney south of Kimball Bend Bridge. W M Dub Remington, a Meridan partner, survives and aids in the boat, body recovered in 30 feet of water three hours later. Funeral held in Meridian with interment at Weslaco.
