Clifton High Students Win Six First Places at District Meet
Clifton High School dominated the Texas Interscholastic League District 16-A Literary Meet at Baylor University in Waco on Wednesday. Winners included Vicki Vickrey and Zeda Anne Jameson for girls events, Stephen Rester for Slide Rule, and Darlene Shipp in typing, with Clifton earning six firsts and placing in other events. Clifton also placed third in the district one act play contest at Midway High School, with George Ann Calvert receiving honorable mention for acting in The Wonder Hat directed by Miss Lottie Bettis.

Prominent Texan Dies Here After Long Public Career
Samuel McCoy Braswell aged 74 4 months 9 days died April 1 in Clifton Texas after a stroke during breakfast March 25. He was editor publisher and public relations figure in multiple Texas towns and later a longtime Fort Worth Texas Wesleyan College administrator. He and his wife moved to the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home February 1 1960 and he served in Lions Club leadership and various press associations. He left a wife son and daughter with grandchildren and sisters.
