Clifton High School tops 42 schools at the Annual Eagle Track Meet in Valley Mills on April 2 winning the team trophy the high point individual trophy and the mile relay trophy. Rallin Aars leads Clifton with 29 points. David Schmidt of Valley Mills is runner up. New records include Ernest Erickson in shot put Jerry Anderson in 220 yards and Buddy Gorman high jump.

Clifton FFA teams qualify for April state contests
Clifton’s FFA dairy and poultry judging teams placed tenth and third at the Area 8 contest held April 2 at Tarleton State College Stephenville. The dairy team of Thiele Stacha and Wiede finished tenth qualifying for the April 30 state meet at Texas A and M College. poultry team members Emmett Bary Latham and Fricks on won third and earned a plaque. Milk judging team members Arrington Carpenter and Larson will compete in Fort Worth April 9.

Forty nine members from Clifton Public Schools Band, combining high school and junior high students, competed in the Region III Interscholastic League Band Contest in Marlin. Led by Superintendent Kent Appleby and Band Instructor Mrs. Bill Braune, the group earned second division for performance and third in sight reading among 12 Class A bands. The program included Ceremonial March, Spiritual from Symphony No. 5 by Don Gillis, and Gloriale Overture.

Voters in Clifton cast 67 ballots with G E Jackson Harold Wiede and Martin Hoel winning three year terms as trustees. Valley Mills set a county record turnout with 792 voters. A M Long and Lorn Faubion top incumbents Raburn and Dorman Jr. trailed. Cranfills Gap used a coin flip to break a tie among six candidates for two board seats with Emmett Orbeck winning and Amundson Reierson tied before the flip.
