R M Jones of Coy ote near Clifton received a diamond 50 year service pin from C A Anderson chief of the Waco Weather Station for over five decades of daily rainfall reporting and weather observations. The 80 year old veteran, who began in 1911, continues farm work and weather duties with family support noted at the presentation.

Mrs. Whitley Celebrated At 84th Birthday Dinner In Waco

A March 26 gathering at D. J. Hollingsworths in Waco marked the 84th birthday of Mrs. Sarah G. Whitley of Clifton. Family and friends from Dallas Turner, China Spring Gatesville and Houston attended, with illnesses preventing two others. Amos Elder named head football coach at Gatesville High School after leading Valley Mills Schools.

Snake Displays Win Blue Ribbon at Clifton Scout-O-Rama

Clifton Boy Scout Troop No. 76 wowed crowds at the Scout-O-Rama in Waco with a Reptile Study display featuring a live rattler, skins, and hunting pictures from Bosque County. Scoutmaster W. B. Oswald led the group, whose exhibit drew a large photo spread in the Waco News-Tribune and earned a blue ribbon. Cub Pack 234 also earned a blue for Indian craft displays under den mothers and Cubmaster Gus Krueger.

Dahlen Funeral Follows Clifton Heart Attack Death

Funeral services were held for H C Dahlen 70 of Clifton at Trinity Lutheran Church following his death from a heart attack at the local hospital. He is survived by his wife Gelinda Olson Dahlen and three sons Louis Alton Horace Chester and his twin who died at birth.

Death of Clifton man George B. Arnold shocks Bosque County

George B. Arnold 45 of Route 1 Clifton died of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon at home. He owned Arnold Motors and the A H Oil Co in Clifton. Sons Gordon and Gary found him. ambulance and doctor arrived but efforts failed. Funeral held March 30 at Zion United Church of Christ with burial in Clifton Cemetery. Foster to Lead 1961 Central Texas Fair

T N Foster was elected president of the Central Texas Fair Association at its March 30 banquet in City Hall. New officers are J A Hyles as vice president, Dan Amundson secretary treasurer, and D C Halverson assistant secretary treasurer. The event featured a turkey dinner by Clifton Civic Improvement Society and a talk by Johnny Watkins on productive leadership. The fair closed with 948.80 dollars in bank balance, with repairs like a new roof needed. annual costs run four to five thousand dollars.

Clifton Star Route 1 Extended To Start April 1

Clifton's Star Route 1 will be extended starting April 1, 1961, per A L Bronstad postmaster. The carrier will depart at Turner Green Wade corner on Highway 22 proceed north to Watt Cole place then east and south to Highway 22 Beachland entrance Laguna Park rural station Dillard's Store corner Reuben Usher residence Rocky Canyon Lodge and FM 56 back to current route.

Long welded rails replace short rails in Clifton project

The Santa Fe Railway unloads 1 440 foot welded rails from 31 flat cars along Bosque County tracks. Eight trains will haul 24 rails each from Pampa to Valley Mills, with joints reduced to about a quarter mile once laid. O H Osborn notes welded rail is 37 times longer than standard 39 foot sections.

Three Cranfills Gap Fishermen Reel Big Leon River Cats

Dor ris D. Simmons E. D. Si Johnson and R. C. Reierson of Cranfills Gap landed a 27 pound yellow catfish and two smaller ones weighing 4% and 4 pounds apiece in the Leon River. The trio drew excitement in Cranfills Gap and spurred other fishermen to prepare gear.

Annie Lundgren 86 Dies in Clifton Hospital

Annie Lundgren born June 4 1874 in Norway died March 23 at Clifton hospital after a stroke. Survived by six children nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral held March 24 at Clifton Sunset Home Chapel and March 25 at Bethel Lutheran Avoca with interment at Eriksdale Cemetery Avoca.

Clifton School District and City Elections Set for April 1 and 4

Voters will elect school trustees for Clifton Independent School District on Saturday April 1 and city officials including mayor and aldermen plus a senatorial race on Tuesday April 4. Barrel Racers to Meet in Clifton for Round-Up

Clifton will host the Texas Barrel Racing Association annual round-up during the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo in September. TBRA members from across Texas and neighboring states will compete in barrel racing events and present year awards at a banquet. Faye Oglesby leads the group with Jackie Thompson and NaRay McHood as officers. The 1960 TBRA round-up was in Hope Arkansas.

Clifton buyers report steady cattle prices with crop and hog averages

Thursday morning prices list eggs at 27c a dozen for large, 24c for medium and B large, cream at 40c a pound, grains with oats 63c per bu and wheat around $1.78 bu. About 575 cattle offered Wednesday in Clifton, prices: slaughter steers and yearlings $23 to $25.50, cows $15.50 to $17, stockers $23 to $26, cows and calves $130 to $220. Hog tops from $17 to $17.25 and lamb top at $14.00.
