Clarinda Sets Nov 8 Vote on Annexation to City

Clarinda voters will decide in the November 8 general election on annexing an area east of the city limits including Washington Street and land along the county road. The city council, after a hearing with no objectors present, unanimously adopted the annexation resolution and named Bob Smith mayor pro tem to sign the order.

Biology courses begin at Clarinda Junior College

Clarinda Junior College offers a first biology course with 13 students enrolled for the summer session. Dr Dorothy Matala from Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls resides for the brief study period. The program aids students earning extra biology credits and enrollments remain open through Dean James Browning. 25 are expected to join the July class on Contemporary Social and Economic Problems led by Earl Hayden.

Ermal Benedict 66 died after a heart ailment. He and his brother ran a family music business in Coin and Clarinda since 1908, with Ivan Benedict continuing the store. Man Narrowly Escapes After Clay Ditch Collapse

Johnsons Attend Luther League Conclave in Calgary

Yvonne and Arlen Johnson, Bethesda Lutheran Church delegates, will travel by train to Calgary Canada for the 16th International Youth Conference of the Luther League from June 29 to July 3. More than 700 US delegates will join 2,000 Canadian participants with talks by noted Lutheran leaders. Clarinda selects Topeka firm for junior high building

Bower Construction Co of Topeka landed the general contract for Clarinda’s new junior high grade school. Bids opened Wednesday showed total about 190,690 with nearby Bass Construction Co of Enid Oklahoma close behind. Local bidders Arthur Lines won plumbing and heating 42,214 and Jack Krise Clarinda Electric won electrical work 12,700. About 55 people attended the bid opening at the high school.

Miss Teressa May Kline Dies at 59 in Red Oak

Miss Teressa May Kline 59 of Griswold died Sunday at a Red Oak hospital. Burial was to be in Clarinda Wednesday. Funeral services were held at Sellergren Funeral Home in Red Oak after her death. She had lived in Emerson, Clarinda, Iowa, and Curtis, Nebraska.

Rural youth delegates named for state leadership conference

Delegates from Page and Taylor counties were selected for the state young people leadership conference on August 16 at the 4-H club camp near Madrid. Ronald Meyer from Clarinda. Richard Cordes from Valisca. and Mary Lou Cordes from Bedford were chosen from 188 candidates submitted by 86 counties. The conference, limited to 100 attendees, aims to train youth in group dynamics and individual roles within groups. Selection was by the extension youth staff at Iowa State College.
