ASC Announces 1.81 Dollar Wheat Price for 1956

Greenwood Heads to Tokyo for Sixteen-Week Evangelistic Mission

Rev Lester Greenwood leaves Omaha for a Japan tour joining about 40 ministers in a Lacour Christian crusade. The group travels via Minneapolis Seattle Anchorage to Tokyo arriving Tuesday at 2 50 pm. Greenwood will serve in Yamato Fukushima and mail weekly letters to the Herald Journal.

The First National Bank of Essex marks the formal opening of its expanded and remodeled banking quarters on Friday June 24 from 1 30 pm to 4 30 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. Free Red Cross swimming lessons draw rapid turnout

Monday saw large crowds for Red Cross swimming classes led by Rosalyn Richardson. More than 600 expected before Friday as lesson registrations surge at the American Legion pool and in eastern Page County with 310 beginners and 550 total signed up across sessions.

Illinois Driver Admits Car Blame In Street Collision

Charles F. Boeke of Rockford Illinois admitted fault after his car side swiped a parked Berry Poultry Farm truck on east Washington Street. Damages totaled over $1 000 with Boeke’s car at $900 and the truck at $10. Boeke and his wife, who were briefly hospitalized for a lobe injury to her car, purchased a new Plymouth in Clarinda and agreed to pay the truck damages. William Ivan Smith was the parked driver involved.

New County Youth Assistant Named for Page Extension Office

Kilts, 20, begins as county youth assistant in Page County Extension to help John Hunter with summer 4-H work. A junior at Iowa State College Ames, he majors in animal husbandry and hails from near Walnut. He has a long 4-H record including beeves hogs sheep horses crops and judging teams. He was high man in individual judging at Ak Sar Ben in 1950 and 1951. He also works with the livestock and dairy judging teams at Iowa State.

Double Arrest In Clarinda Car Case Ends In Prison Terms

Deputy Tom Cummings stopped a car east of Clarinda and arrested two men in a single vehicle. Jimmy Spicer, owner, faced OMVI third offense and received an eight year term. Pearl Manchester admitted suspended license driving and chose two days in jail after pleading guilty. Spicer had earlier paid a $50 of a $500 fine in Red Oak. Manchester pled guilty before Justice Bob McCurdy.

Louise Cundiff Tops Scholar Award in Des Moines Chapter

Louise Cundiff of Clarinda won the Alpha Iota sorority chapter scholarship key at the American Institute of Business in Des Moines for a 98.2 grade average in higher accounting. The Des Moines chapter’s highest mark, she is a Clarinda High School graduate of 1952 and expects to finish at AIB in February next year.
