Don Williams Named Iowa 4-H Candidate for State Office
Don Williams 18 of Valley Township is one of eight Iowa 4-H candidates for state boys office at the Short Course on the Iowa State College campus in Ames June 25 27. He is a member of Valley Boosters 4-H Club and has led livestock projects including 35 market litters 310 pigs 201 lambs from 158 ewes plus beef cattle and dairy work. He will also vie for the L W Player Memorial Award and attend the National 4-H Conference in Washington DC as one of four Iowa delegates. He plans to enroll at Iowa State College next fall and return to farming after graduation.

Intermittent rains slow farm activity in area
Intermittent rains have slowed farm and nursery work in the Shenandoah area this past week. The State Employment Service reports 47 farm placements, 33 for haying, while demand for year round help remains light. Heavy rain swelled Nishnabotna rivers causing some flooding in Sidney and Riverton. wheat losses were noted from wind and rain.

District 4-H Camp Draws Twenty-Eight Page County Girls
Twenty eight Page County 4-H girls attended the district camp at YWCA Camp Brewster near Omaha from June 9 to 12. Leaders and counselors accompanied the group and taught crafts swimming conservation and recreation. Each club will have two girls teach their clubs the learned activities and two nominees were named for spirit of camp Kathy Johnston and Beverly Miller.

Clarinda fire crews were alerted to smoke on the Linderman Hotel roof Monday afternoon but no blaze occurred. Fire Chief Art Kelley said paper burning in an incinerator caused smoke to roll off the roof as atmospheric conditions drew it downward from the chimney.

Two Uninjured In Crash Wednesday Near Fremont Church
Mrs Everett Rowe and her 33 year old daughter escaped injury when their 1954 Ford plunged 15 feet after hitting a calf wandering onto the road three miles west of the Fremont Lutheran Church. They crawled free from beneath the toppled roof, were treated by a Shenandoah physician and released. In other news, Fred Humphrey, 35, of Clear Moon will become the Clarinda Mental Health Institute recreation director, directing a year around program expanding past summer routines with indoor and outdoor activities and new facilities.

Leg Injury After Boy Jumps From Tractor Stripping
Stanley Armstrong aged 12, of East River Township, suffered a leg wound requiring 40 stitches while helping his father strip blue grass on their Harold Brown farm. He fell when he attempted to jump off a running machine. the back of his lower leg was cut from calf to ankle but not deeply, and he received treatment at Municipal Hospital before returning home.

Extension Trainees Here for Summer
Sharon Brown of Lamont and Ronald Rubin of Corning join the Page County Extension Council as three month summer trainees from Iowa State College. Both will be seniors in Ames next fall with Brown studying home economics education and extension, Rubin agricultural education. Brown works under Mrs Marjorie Burch learning county extension home economics duties. Rubin studies the extension director’s role with John Hunter supervising. Brown has 9 years in 4-H, served as Ringgold County 4-H historian, and represented Ringgold at the 1952 state fair in the county style revue. She also contributed to a foods demonstration team that won at the county fair and competed at the State fair. Interstate Girl A honored title at the St Joseph Missouri Interstate Show in 1954.
