Lisle and C of C seek Iowa employment office expansion
Lisle, Clarinda representatives with J Ym Riges and Ted Po feet urged the Iowa Employment Security Commission to add a Clarinda branch or extended staffing. Shenandoah serves the area. a regular Clarinda visit every two weeks is inadequate for laid off workers and job placement. Commission officials were courteous and receptive to the possibility. The Iowa office will raise the proposal with regional US Employment Service heads.

Cla rinda Junior College reports the second successful year for its adult education program with a net profit of 836.10 to the district treasury. Fifty one students enrolled across southwest townships took 26 courses, led by Typing, Children's Literature, and General Shop. Total receipts were 4003.55 with expenditures 3167.45.

Page county supervisors protested the abandonment of a 5 1 2 mile road between state Highway 333 and US Highway 71 in Amity township. They urged rescission pending a hearing at Ames and cited costs to repair and maintain the road. The state highway commission said no statewide policy was involved.

Delicate Heart Surgery Brings New Life to Rural School Girl
Virginia Goecker of Noda way township underwent a delicate heart operation in Chicago on May 27 for coarctation of the aorta. Surgeons removed the collapsed section and joined the artery to restore blood flow. She woke in recovery, began walking within days, and planned to return to Jackson school this fall, with support from family, friends, and medical staff.

Braddyville mourns James Eugene Wilson 22 a MMQ second class who fell to his death from a smokestack aboard the USS Princeton in San Diego harbor. He wrote his mother Della Wilson detailing repairs and dread of the job. He had just returned from a Pacific tour and was to take 30 days leave with his navy brother Ray at San Francisco. He was a Graham Missouri high school graduate 1951 and enlisted 1952. He was to be discharged in 1956.

Two local pilots escaped with minor injuries when their Aeronca Chief crashed on a dirt road a half mile east of Highway 71 ten miles north of Clarinda Tuesday evening. E C Hirschler controlled the plane with Donald Shepherd as passenger. a forced-landing attempt clipped a fence, injuring both men and badly damaging the aircraft.
