ASC Committee Announces 1956 Soil Bank Rules

The ASC office in Page County outlines farmer eligibility for maximum price support on 1956 corn and participation in the soil bank plan. Every farm with a corn acreage allotment will have a corn soil bank base acreage 17.8 percent greater than the earlier fixed allotment.

Four Plans Outlined For Farmers Under 1956 Corn Support

County ASC office calculates corn soil bank acreages for each farm and presents four possible plans for raising corn this crop year. Outdoor graduation honors in Clarinda for two classes

Two classes, Clarinda Junior College and Clarinda High School, held joint commencement outdoors at the Fairgrounds amid a chilly May evening. Miss Janet Hayes topped JC sophomore honors with 3.97, and Virginia McDaniel led High School seniors with 3.86 for valedictory.

The Shorthorn Breeders Association of Southwest Iowa hosts a field day June 16 at the Lisle Farquhar farm near Coin and College Springs. US Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Benson visited Norman Wynn’s farm northeast of Clarinda Nebraska Township on a Friday evening. He arrived two hours late, greeted Mrs Wynn and several waiting wives and children, and shook hands with each person as photographers prepared.

Wheat allotment fixed at 6519 acres for Page County

The 1957 wheat allotment for Page County is 6,519 acres, down from 7,465 in 1956. Notices of individual farm allotments will be mailed by mid June, and voting on marketing quotas will occur July 20 in all 36 states. Iowa totals show a reduced state allotment and multiple counties receiving less or none. Monona and Harrison top statewide counts among the largest county allotments.

Three Page County Men Will Enter Armed Forces

Ed Falk head of the Selective Service Board says three Page County residents have been notified they will be inducted in June. Edwin J Cairns Loren R Snow of Stuart and James L Armstrong of Kans will report at the Linderman Hotel at 7 30 am on Tuesday June 19 for transport to the Omaha induction center.

Approval of School Bonds Passes By Wide Margin

The town votes approving an elementary school bond issue with about 75 percent in favor. The final tally shows a decisive yes on the bond proposal totaling $58,000.
