Legion Swimming Pool to Open for 28th Year Sunday
Clarinda's American Legion Swimming Pool will open its 28th season this Sunday at 1 pm under chairman Laurence Higgins. Ken Jones will manage, with a staff of five lifeguards a matron and three assistants. Returning guards include Rollie Kendrick James Bliss joins from Dows to Corning replacing Jim Millhone. Other guards Ronnie Miller Skip Funderburk and Ed Bean. Mrs Ralph Lyman returns as matron with Judy Martindale and Ed and Amy Higgins assisting. Pool improvements include repainting new diving towers and light poles with chlorination underway. Season tickets available at local Clarinda shops with reduced rates for Legionnaires at Foster Furniture Store.

Mrs Clayton Gillette of Shenandoah suffered minor injuries when her 1956 Chevrolet sedan collided with a tractor half a mile south of Conn on Highway 208 Tuesday at 8 am. Charles E Wiar, driving south on the tractor, turned into a farm driveway and said he did not see the car. Tractor damage estimated at $175. car damage extensive. Sheriff Stanley Edgar reported.

Wife of former Clarinda city manager dies in Ft Madison
Word has been received of the death May 22 of Mrs W R Zimmerman of Ft Madison Iowa. She had been ill only one day. Mrs Zimmerman, 58, had been a resident of Ft Madison the past 15 years and was married Jan 19 1956 to W R Zimmerman. Services were held May 23 at Ft Madison with burial at Perry Louisiana. Survivors include her husband one daughter Miss Patricia Elliott her mother Mrs Morgan of Perry and three sisters.

Two Fined Here On Hit and Run Count Two
Two men were fined a total of 110 dollars and costs by Justice R J Mc Curdy on charges of leaving the scene of an accident. Leroy A Ridnour paid 100 dollars after his car struck a parked vehicle on Washington Street near 9th Street. Harold Laweger, owner of the damaged car, followed Ridnour to Villisca before he stopped. Allen Kline paid 10 dollars after backing from a diagonal parking space into Kenneth MecCalla’s car on 5th Street. James McCalla, 16, reported the accident. Minor damage occurred to McCalla’s 1954 Ford. no damage to Kline’s Plymouth.

Savannah Girls Borrow Car to Go Down Town
Three Savannah, Missouri girls escaped with minor injuries when the borrowed car wrecked eight miles west of Clarinda on Memorial Day morning. Driver Joan Becker 17 and passengers Alice Miller 18 and Margaret Smith 18 were treated at Municipal Hospital and released.
