Goose Trapping Project Yields 45 Captured For Banding
National Wildlife Refuge staff at Seney in Schoolcraft County captured 45 geese during molting season. Of these 45, 11 were goslings and the rest adults or yearlings. Birds were banded and released to study migration routes, wintering grounds, and behavior. About 1000 yards of net were used as researchers herded geese toward a wire trap for handling. Biologists noted difficulties and solutions to improve future trapping and banding success.
