Clare High School opens the 1962 grid campaign defending its Mid Michigan B League title with Corunna new to the conference. The Pioneers face Ithaca and Durand early, adjust for graduation losses, and push for stronger attendance with season passes. Adults pay $4 for all home games, students $1.25, and pre game sale 30 cents for students. Mouth guards become mandatory under new rules.

Beef Feeders Will Hear Test Results

Michigan beef producers schedule their annual Cattle Feeders Day for September 29 at the MSU livestock pavilion. The program runs 9:30 a.m. and covers cattle feeding research and the USDA dual grading system with participation from meat packers, retailers, and government officials.

Local Lakes Receive 106000 Northern Pike Fingerlings

The Conservation Department released an estimated 107000 pike fingerlings this spring into Hall Lake Isabella county Town Line Lake Montcalm county and Otsego Lake Otsego county to boost warm water fishing. A spawning marsh at School Section Lake Mecosta county was vandalized before counts could be made. The aim is to establish pike numbers to balance the lakes fish populations and control stunted pan fish.

Deer Shooting To Coincide With Regular Firearms Season

Michigan Conservation Commission approved fall deer harvest goals of 60 000 bucks and 37 000 antlerless whitetails. Antlerless hunting will resume with regular firearm season in 32 food shortage areas to reduce wastage. The plan sets 37 000 antlerless target and 85 880 permits, with hunts Nov 10 to 25 in much of the UP and northern Lower Peninsula. Archery seasons remain unchanged.

Lake Shamrock History Presented to Clare Library

Holley League Banquet Ends Golf Season

The Holley Carburetor Co golf league closed its season with a Stag Day at Twin Elms Golf Course on September 8 1962. About 115 attendees including league members Detroit plant staff and guests played 18 holes for trophies and prizes followed by a luncheon and banquet at Barnes Lounge. CMU Receives Federal Grant for Hearing Study

Central Michigan University will receive 65 830 dollars in federal funds for a one year study on hearing problems of the mentally retarded in cooperation with Mt Pleasant State Home and Training School. Stewart Kinde named one of two audiologists on the project with staff from the Training Home and university. The Office of Education and Michigan Department of Mental Health back the project with advisory cooperation.

How To Get Anterless Deer Permit

Michigan hunters will find application cards for antlerless deer permits at license dealers in mid September. The 1962 Deer Hunting Guide will be mailed with the cards and shows season areas quotas and how to fill out applications. The postmark deadline is October 10 and permits are not issued on a first come basis. A late October drawing will determine successful applicants where applications exceed quotas. Up to 200000 hunters are expected to apply.

Congregational Conference Uses Women for Workshop Day

Women from the Michigan Congregational Christian Conference attended a daylong workshop and study conference at First Congregational Church in Clare on September 11. Breakfast, devotions, morning and afternoon workshops, a noon luncheon, and an evening program with readings and a film slide show followed, led by church and association leaders.

Gary Collins of Harrison returns to Central Michigan University as a Graduate Assistant in the Biology Department. He will teach three laboratory sections under Dr Hahn and study six to ten graduate hours while researching the effects of thalidimide.
