An election in Clare County produced a record turnout with long lines of voters and strong showings for several candidates. Thomas S. Dorsey narrowly retained the Probate Judge position by 18 votes. A. S. Crigsey led Sheriff race by 95 votes. Emma Hoag won County Clerk and Register of Deeds by 271. Carl Holbrook surged to Prosecuting Attorney by 899. Local Democratic picks included Mails for Probate Judge and Brown for Sheriff. A county Drain Commissioner race is missing from early results.

Edgar Grant Welch born May 22, 1870 in Hammond New York grew to become a dedicated educator and publisher. He moved from Clare Michigan to California about 13 years ago serving as principal of a large school and pursuing an MA at the University of Southern California while supporting family life with Minnie Presley and daughters Mildred and Marjorie. He earlier edited the Clare Sentinel for 13 years and held roles as County Superintendent of Schools and Sunday School leader. He was active in the Westlake Methodist Church and left a lasting memory as a lifelong educator and community figure.

Mabel Irene Kaul Remembered After Tragic Auto Crash
Mrs. Mabel Irene Kaul died last week after injuries from a Saturday auto crash involving her husband and child. Born May 5 1897 in Florida Ohio she moved to Gladwin as a child and later taught in Clare and Gladwin counties. She married Harry J Kaul on May 2 1918 and leaves three children, Ava Marie Irene Mauda and John Layton, plus her parents and siblings. Funeral held September 7 in Grout township Cherry Grove cemetery was the final resting place.
