Michigan lays out revised traffic rules with a carefull and prudent speed standard, signaling requirements, and penalties. It forbids parking on highways outside towns, requires stopping at accidents, and sets distances from fire apparatus. Garagemen must report serious crashes, and reckless driving carries fines and jail terms.
The National fishing contest sponsored by Sheakspear Company Kalamazoo was run in Clare by Floyd Kirkpatrick. Leo Hampton won first prize for a four and three quarter pound bass at Perch Lake earning a 15 dollar Sheakspear Marhoff reel. Oliver Campbell showed a 36 inch sixteen pound nine ounce pike from Doc and Tom lake earning a 15 dollar Sheakspear casting reel. Norris Asline caught a four and a half pound wall eyed pike at Perch lake earning a stay alive minnow bucket. prizes were provided by local dealers and the national contest welcomes local winners.
Private Clarence Edward Badgley died in Washington D C from a gunshot wound Aug 22 1927 at age 22 He was the son of Mr and Mrs S C Badgley of Sheridan Township born July 6 1905 and enlisted in the U S Marine Corps Aug 27 1923 He is survived by his parents three sisters and four brothers and the Elm Grove church funeral was held Aug 28 conducted by Rev Bates Quick and sudden was the call and we will miss you each day
Peterson of Clare and Walter W Jeffery of Detroit present a concert at the Congregational church on Thursday September 15 1927. The pair two schoolmates from the Michigan School for the Blind at Lansing perform violin piano and vocal solos with piano duets and light readings. Admission 25 or 50 cents. Program at 8 15 p m Hastern time.
The Colonville Ladies Aid will hold a bake sale at A. N. Friz's office on Saturday September 10. Proceeds support local community projects and church activities.
The Baptist church reopens next Sunday at 10 AM after interior redecorating. Rev. Dr. Henry Morgan of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church will deliver the morning address. An outside speaker for the evening is planned. Rev. MacDonald and members invite the public to attend both services.

Alonzo A Morton, born October 3 1857 in Van Wert Ohio, died August 31 1927 at age 69 years 10 months 27 days in Michigan. He lived at times with his brother L W Morton and mainly with nephew Jesse Simpson's family. Survived by two sons Ray Morton Van Wert Ohio and Gaylord Morton Indianapolis Indiana, two grandchildren, one brother L W Morton, and many relatives.
Miss Mary Jane Wood and Bryan Miller were married Saturday evening at the home of Rev. Chas Rieinhardt in Brown Corners. Attended by Ira Miller and Myrtle Spohn, they plan to live on the Miller farm in Arthur township. The couple are well known and well liked, with many friends who wish them happiness.
Bertha Butler Davis born October 29, 1866 in Paulding Ohio dies August 31 1927 at home of daughter Mrs Dan Holcomb Lansing after four months illness. Survived by eleven children seven with spouses and many grandchildren. funeral from Lansing Methodist Church with burial in Cherry Grove.
Julia Dominick born January 12 1858 in South Bay Albany Co New York died August 31 1927 in Lansing aged 69 years eight months nineteen days She married Loren Schermerhorn in 1882 and they had one daughter Eulalie She leaves a son in law David Kibbe a grandson Owen Kibbe four nieces and nephews and many friends She was a Mt Hope Methodist member and active in church life The service was at Gleaner hall Lake Friday afternoon Rev W S Teeter of Clare officiated and burial was in Lake Cemetery
Roy McKibbin of Prudehville, a former state representative, lost a $76,000 highway contract after Attorney General Potter ruled that a legislator cannot contract with the State for one year after leaving office. The project for a two mile M-38 segment between Mio and Rose City will be readvertised.
An automobile owned and driven by Elmer Schofield of Farwell was destroyed by fire near Sanford Tuesday afternoon after it turned over in a ditch. Schofield was uninjured in the accident.
Clare county schools opened their doors with few exceptions as Asa Fr Aldrich county commissioner of schools notes. Most districts start after Labor Day aiming for a uniform first Tuesday in September next year. William Hilbourn of Arthur township died at home Monday night after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Hagle Church with Rev. Frank Bates officiating and burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Hilbourn was a longtime respected farmer in the county. A life sketch will be published next week.
Funeral services for John E Pollard were held at St Henry’s church Vernon after a short illness. Born December 15 1869 in Peel county Ontario he came to this country in 1875. He married Margaret Crowley in 1898. she died in 1915. Surviving are Madeleine Margaret John Louis James and Helen Pauline, two brothers Dan and Gus, three sisters Mrs Wm Haley Mrs Wm Cameron and Mrs Frany Apple. Nine children were born to the union with three deaths in infancy.
The Clare Dairy owned by Fred Dora will raise milk prices by 7e per quart starting September 12 for all customers citywide.

Mrs John Lennox aged 38 died August 30 1927 at Rosebush following a long illness. Funeral services were Sept 1 at Wise church with Rev Leroy Whitney officiating. She leaves husband John Lennox two daughters Beulah and Louise and many relatives. Burial was in Denver cemetery.
Mrs Earl Phinisey suffers a broken leg when stepping from a running board in the Perry farm driveway south of the city. Her husband drove the car toward Clare as she slipped, fracturing her leg below the knee. Dr W F Clute treated and reduced the fracture. she progresses toward recovery.
Walter H. Larman Post defeated Harrison 9 to 5 at the county fair on Wednesday with Oden pitching a three hit complete game for the Vets. The next day the Vets beat Farwell 5 to 3 behind Ed Johnston in a strong team effort featuring Bellinger Struble Davis and solid umpiring by Judge Heber.
The Princess Theatre schedule lists September events with titles and acts including The Whirl of Youth and Junior Stars, Senorita, and The Blue Eagle. Matinee showings priced 20c to 10c with Tuesday matinees.
