Vernon Pioneer Dies at Grass Lake
Edwin Stearns, a Vernon Township pioneer and Civil War veteran, died at Grass Lake Michigan on August 23 after a three month illness. He settled in Vernon in 1880 and long lived in this city. He leaves a wife Mary Kinnan, son Ernest, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two brothers Ezra and Charles, plus two sisters. He was born in Pittefield Massachusetts and served in Company IF 20th Michigan Infantry. His Baptist faith and community work marked his legacy.

Man Killed in Auto Accident Near City
Last Monday Geo Jackson of this city was returning home when an auto without lights struck his car about 13 miles west of the city. Vern Wiggins, driving the other auto, died a few hours after the collision. Jackson and the other passenger were not seriously injured.
