Pfc Donald R Stough son of Mrs H C Winfield of Detroit formerly Clare has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received July 16 in Italy. He served with the 350th Infantry and helped enter Rome. he is recuperating at Percy Jones General Hospital Battle Creek. Stough has three brothers in service and two step brothers also serving in the United States.

Red Chapman Suffers Broken Right Leg in Demolition Accident
James C. Red Chapman of this city suffered a broken right leg at 2 30 Tuesday afternoon while working on the Harrison branch demolition two miles northwest of Clare. Signals failed and a K 5 International dual wheel truck rolled over his legs, breaking the right leg near the ankle. He was taken to Clare Hospital for treatment and the swelling to subside before setting the break.

Letter Update on Lt James Sparta Missing in Roumania
The letter to Mrs Ruth B Sparta from Major General N E F Twining confirms Second Lieutenant James J Sparta went missing in action on July 3 1944 while bombing Barend installations at Giurgiu Roumania. His Liberator was hit by Nazi fighters and began to bail out. the fate of the crew remains uncertain. The Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster recognize his service.

Mrs E Wilson Dies After Prolonged Illness
Emily Wilson, longtime resident of Clare County, died August 31 at her east Sixth street home after a four week illness. Born May 23, 1864 in Ontario, she moved to Michigan with the Sutton family and married George P Wilson February 22, 1887. Surviving are four children Roy C of Mt Pleasant Mamie Sible Midland Winnie Covert and Frank of Midland, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church with Rev. Harold Watson officiating. burial followed at Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Four Weekend Accidents Reported Around Clare Area
Police log details four separate accidents near Clare. A car driven by Paul Creguer, 18, lost a wheel and struck parked vehicles on McEwan Street, causing minor damages with no injuries. A truck crash near US-10 injured driver Ravelsworth Gragg, while a child and two motorists sustained minor injuries in other incidents.
