Farwell youth escapes Isabella County Jail on Saturday night

Walter Leonard a 19 year old from Farwell escaped Isabella County Jail Saturday night by removing a rail from a small window on the second floor. He had been brought there recently from Clare County on forgery and robbery charges and was found missing the next morning. He was later linked to a prior Florida arrest and returned to Clare County.

Clare Girl Weds Flint Young Man Saturday Evening

Miss Alma Siel daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Siel of Clare married Marvin Tidball of Flint in Arthur township. Rev Charles Kleinhardt officiated at his home wedding with Mrs Bert Jackson and her husband as attendants. Mrs Tidball is a Clare High School graduate class of 1885. The couple left Sunday for Flint to begin their life together where both are employed.

Sinclair Refining Company Building Artistic Station

The Sinclair Oil Company bought the corner site at Highth and McEwan streets from Wm. H. Caple and plans a modern oil and gas service station. Bert Taft of Alma leads foundation work for a cement block building with terra cotta face on a 60 by 132 foot lot. Caple retains the west 39 feet and has razed the large house to build a modern two story residence. Leiter Brothers of Rosebush are the contractors. Grounds will be landscaped with evergreens to enhance the corner’s appeal.

Clare County Highway Officials Arranged Wednesday

Court records show Clare County state highway officials arraigned Wednesday before Justice A. S. Young. The session followed a Ladies Auxiliary meeting hosted by Mrs. Mabel Mulder with reports from committees and a testimonial style roll call. Donna Rae Seeley entertained with readings and guests shared accounts of recent sick calls.

Fred T. Wessels of Flint buys Harrison Clare County Cleaver from Jesse Allen who has run the paper for twenty seven years. The Cleaver, founded 1881, marks fifty six years with a February 1 1937 birthday. Allen will stay on as Rural Mail Carrier while Wessels takes over as editor.

Appleblossom Club entertains at P T A meeting

The O'Conner school P T A held its first meeting of the year on Friday night October 23 at the schoolhouse. Two highway workers arraigned over election law claim

Fred Bingham district superintendent and foreman Victor Finch faced arraignment before Justice A S Young in Harrison on charges tied to Michigan Election Laws. Prosecutor Bowler said three state workers alleged Bingham told them only supporters of Roosevelt and Murphy could work, while Bingham denied the accusation and the men were released on recognizance.

Effie Butcher, longtime resident, dies at 64 in 1936

Effie May Simpson Butcher, born April 19 1872 in Vaughnsville Ohio, died October 22 1936 at age 64 years 6 months and days. She married George Butcher March 22 1899 and left four children Iva Alice Rachel and George plus two brothers and eleven grandchildren. She joined Methodist Episcopal then Church of God and remained devout. funeral at Church of God with Rev Van Hoose and burial at Surrey cemetery.
