Death Comes to Clare Woman Miss Mary Bosch

Miss Mary Magdeline Bosch born 1860 Mineral Point Ohio died Friday evening after influenza illness. Never married, she cared for others as a practical nurse and aunt to many. A Lutheran faithful, she served as treasurer of the Lutheran Ladies Aid and is survived by siblings, a niece and nephew, and eight more relatives. Funeral Monday at the church with burial in Cherry Grove.

Clare Pioneer Business Man Dies in Chester

Maurice A Herrick, born June 29 1857, died in Chester Michigan on Thursday October 22. He formerly ran Herrick Harris grocery in Clare, later moved to Ithaca and Owosso then Lansing before settling in Chester. He leaves wife four children fifteen grandchildren seven great grandchildren and many relatives. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery Owosso.

Arthur Resident Dies at Ann Arbor Hospital

Two More Wells Spudded in Vernon and Grant Townships

Work on the Schugg well in Vernon township resumed after a lease dispute and was spudded in at midnight Friday. Mammouth Petroleum Co promotes it with J. C. Arthurs as contracting driller near Brief No. 1 section 22. The Ben Loomis well in Vernon is down 1500 feet with regular formations. Mellon Pollock operate two Vernon field wells on John Brier farm No. 2 and Jos Crowley farm No. 2 with the latter spudded in Wednesday. In Clare county Grant township Michigan Gas and Oil Corp drill on section 18 has reached 700 feet and faces engine trouble.

Planning Week of Study and Play at Michigan State College

Farm Women's Week at Michigan State College is slated for next year. Miss Edna Smith says at least two delegates from each county with extension groups will attend the programs the week before Warmer's Day in August. Delegates will stay at Mary Mayo Hall, the new women's dormitory. New Gas Line Underway Toward Mt Pleasant

Expert welders and laborers lay a new four inch gas line from the Scott well four miles south and half a mile east of Clare to Mt Pleasant. The line replaces a Gas Corporation of Michigan line and should greatly improve Mt Pleasant’s gas supply.

Sheriff Ealmond Woods and deputies captured escaped inmate Burton Patrick near Marion after a long hunt from Ohio. Henry Smith known as two gun Hank Smith was arrested in Lapeer for bigamy with two revolvers found on him. Break ins hit Clare Hardware and Farmers Independent Produce Co. and Samborn's Second Hand on Hast 4th Street. Vagrants and loiterers are being dealt with to curb law violations.
