Michigan moves to abolish the township road system with county road commissions absorbing all mileage by April 1 1986. State funding rises from 3500000 to 4000000 annually to cover the added burden as 77319 miles switch to county control and the 1931 McNitt law accelerates the transfer.
Clare Michigan Mayor Jesse Hampton proclaims Monday October 28 Navy Day to honor Navy personnel and to mark the birth of Theodore Roosevelt. The notice urges church services the preceding Sunday and patriotic programs, with colors displayed and prayers for world peace. Also mentions a Halloween jamboree ad and local social notes.

Lawrence C. Knapp of Ithaca was severely injured when his car collided with a vehicle driven by Janet Smith two miles east of Mt. Pleasant. Knapp suffered intracranial injuries and a fractured shoulder, remained unconscious until Wednesday, while Miss Smith had multiple rib fractures. Both were improving by Thursday afternoon as the wrecked car owned by Acey Parker was a total loss.
Isabella County Sunday schools have sent delegates and registrations to a large statewide gathering in Lansing. County officers urge all schools and pastors to participate, with plans for transportation lodging and meals, and a deadline of Oct 28 to finalize arrangements.

Clare Chapter No 110 plans an extensive Community Fair on Country Life Day during American Education week November 15. The event invites all to exhibit with grain and seed samples promoted by Future Farmers of America at the local high school. Watch the Sentinel for plans and premium list.
Herman G. Walt of Reese is named supervisor for Clare County Resettlement work with office in Harrison. The program aids farmers on marginal soil to relocate and become self supporting. Feed and drought loan collections are transferred from the Rehabilitation Administration. The Sentinel offers oil promoter supplies and map services. The Guild announces a rummage sale October 31 to November 2 in the John Dunlop building basement.
The City Dads announce plans for the annual party at City Tourist Park next Thursday evening. Hot dogs and bang will be available with games for entertainment. Merchants sponsor to curb property damage and promote wholesome recreation among youths.
In a Saturday dawn ceremony at St Marys Catholic Church Miss Jeannette Crossman and Miss Frieda Dell wed Norbert Hoffman and Join C Hoffman, both brides from Farwell area. The double ceremony followed by a breakfast at the Crossman home.
The Michigan highway commission reports about 250 private reflector signs must be removed under a new law prohibiting signs within 200 feet of trunkline center lines. Major owners include Champion Spark Plug, Tivoli Brewing, and Sears Roebuck, with signs found in 39 counties, none in the Upper Peninsula.

William Jacob Leis died Monday night after weeks with typhoid fever at General hospital Mt. Pleasant. Born April 6 1869 in Holzen Germany he immigrated in 1892 settling in Clare county. He leaves wife seven children and a brother in Germany. Funeral held at Doherty Funeral Home with Rev Binhammer officiating. Interment Cherry Grove.
