A community wide effort launches on Monday to collect scrap metal for steel mills amid dwindling supply. Leaders organize township and county committees to assemble scrap from farms before winter weather, with a goal of moving every pound by Saturday October 31st and starting the drive November 2nd.
Michigan law enforcement warns motorists against storing gasoline during rationing as it violates state law and insurance contracts. State Police Fire Division chief Arnold Renner explains containers must be metal red labeled gasolyne and storage limited to five gallons outside dedicated buildings. The warning cites past accidents and fatalities in the east as cautionary examples.

Julia Piorkowski born in Poland December 5, 1893 came to America with her parents later lived in St Louis for thirty years married to John Konarski in January 1917. She suffered from cancer and died at home in Sheridan township Sunday October 18 1942 aged 48 years 10 months 13 days. Funeral held at home 2:00 PM Tuesday with Dr John H Hall officiating and burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.
Robert Kliener chaired an eight county A A A gathering at Harrison court house to discuss Formera Transportation plans. Weller Taylor from the State office led the discussion on Farmer's Transportation registration with chairmen and secretaries from Glare Isdbyellay Gladwich Midland Tosco Areiée Ogemaw and Ros opmin on Missaikes in attendance.

George Beebe of Osceola county was released on 1000 bond after waiving examination on negligent homicide charges tied to the death of Albert Leach near Temple. Leach, 80, was found roadside on M-61 and died at Cadillac hospital after being injured by an apparent auto strike. Beebe says he may have struck something and stopped to help as authorities arrived.

Germain Bendele paid fines and Eichhorns fine suspended due to first offense and need to support four children.
Marilyn and Joan DeGeer nine and seven year old sisters of Farwell, sons of Mr and Mrs Arthur DeGeer, are in the war effort. They traded old license plates to aid the metal drive and sold their bottle raised pet lambs to buy $25 War Bonds each. They vow to continue assisting until the war ends and Uncle Jack returns home. Each girl rang the bank’s Victory Bell.
The Clare County Board of Supervisors voted to purchase 5000 in War Savings Bonds in October and 5000 monthly for five months to reach 30000. They allocated 300 for farewell dinners for local inductees, to be run by Willard Bicknell and George White of the Service Men's Club. The board discussed setting clocks back but took no action amid Eastern War Time designation, noting farmer labor adjustments during the national crisis.

Mrs. Mayo Robinett of Arthur township died Saturday after a long illness. Born September 25 1866 in Hamilton Indiana Charlotta Emeline Teegardin married Maye M Robinett December 24 1888. They moved to Michigan in 1902 and she leaves children Edna Emmet and Evile plus four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral at Brown Corners United Brethren Church Tuesday at 2 PM with Rev Charles Rieinhardt and Rev Marion Burkett officiating. interment Cherry Grove Cemetery.
