Hersey defeated Clare 25 to 0 after taking an early lead on a fumble and a shifted plan. Petchnick stood out on offense, Johnson on defense, with Davy's ten yard run noted as the team prepares for Beaverton.
After years of illness, James Arrand, a longtime Vernon city resident, died Monday at 9 30 am. Funeral services were held at his home Wednesday afternoon with Rev Mollett of Cadillac officiating, and interment followed in Rosebush cemetery. An obituary is to run next week.
The Labvon Post of the American Legion donated twenty five dollars to support the magazine end of the library’s work. Mrs Carl Holbrook and Mrs V Qooladge chair the magazines committee and have prepared selections of interest for readers. Larmon Post is thanked and the library invites community moral and material support while noting hours on Saturday and Monday.
Knights of the Ku Klux Klan held a Harvest Social at Wm Duncan’s grove on Stephenson Lake. A lecturer spoke on the organization while a large crowd listened and many applied for membership. The event included a lunch of roasted ox and praised the Duncans for hosting.
The Knights of Pythias announce an annual game hunt on Sunday October 16 and Monday October 20 at Clare. Each participant must submit dressed game by 8 p.m. Monday and pay 50 cents if not hunting. A supper follows at 7 p.m. in Castle Hall on October 21 with captains George J. White and William Stephenson organizing teams.
The Gladwin Farmers' Skipping Association will hold its annual meeting at the Armory in Gladwin on Monday afternoon October 20 at one o clock. Election of officers and any other business will be discussed.
The Board of Supervisors meets at the county building in Harri gan for the annual October session. County clerk Emma Moag handles preliminaries as tax apportionments and the county road budget are set. Supervisors aim to limit township tax burdens while approving the coming year’s program and bills.
Last Sunday morning William Colburn, manager of the local Borden's Condensery, was seriously burned while removing a hot boiler manhole. He believed the water had been removed and the boiler cleaned when the hot water and steam scalded his arm and side. He remains at home this week, in pain but resting somewhat easier as reporting continues.

Miss Elba Morris of the American Red Cross arranged for Miss Norma Eskil to begin public health nursing on November first. Eskil, trained at Presbyterian Hospital Chicago and with post graduate work at Michigan, Columbia, and San Jacinto, will visit schools countywide weighing children and screening for defects while aiding disease prevention. School officials pledged transport support for rural areas as the county chapter finances the effort.

Major hunting period is Oct 15 to Nov 20. rabbit season ends Jan 1, with snowshoe rabbits allowed to Feb 15. Deer season runs Nov 10 to 80 with $2.50 resident fee and an optional $3 for four extra deer for camp use.
Nellie Conoly Jasmine born August 23 1888 Blend Canada died October 8 1924 married December 25 1906 to Chas Jasmine leaving two sons and two daughters. Survivors include her mother Mrs Henry Hoover one sister but another sister preceded her in death six months ago five brothers three step brothers two step-sisters and many relatives. Funeral held Tuesday at Primley Church of God with Rev W Teeters. burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.
Miss Mayme Foss wed Carl Schofield on Sunday October 12 at the Presbyterian parsonage Mt Pleasant. Rev Hawkins performed the ceremony with Miss Debra Marlin and Ebby Brasington in attendance. The couple will reside in Mt Pleasant where the groom is employed.
Mt Vernon Grange announces another dance in their hall on Friday October 24 with Con Verse's Collegians performing. All are invited to attend this social event.
Mrs O A Derby invited city firefighters to a surprise supper at her home last Monday evening. Mr Derby rode with the crew on the fire truck while co conspirators delivered personal invitations. The table overflowed with plentiful food as the firemen gathered for an unexpected feast, appreciated by Mr and Mrs Derby for the fine hospitality.
A fake cattle sale led Mindel and Whitney of Cut-rate Meat to buy 14 head from M. Rose who turned out to be Arthur Little. Two cattle were slaughtered, later twelve returned to the rightful owner Raymond McConnell. Little fled to Clare. sheriff traced him. Three accomplices held for questioning then released.
The Herrick Helping Hand society hosts a fair and cafeteria supper at the church on Friday October 24 to benefit the church. There will be candy booths ice cream and fancy work. Everyone welcome.
