Fans gathered at Recreations Park for a closely fought contest between the All Star team and Gladwin. Both sides exchanged runs after Gladwin scored on an error in the third inning, with play ending after the seventh due to threatening weather and darkness.
Orla Barber as administrator of the Enon Barber estate holds a livestock, machinery, and feed auction next Tuesday at a farm 5 miles northeast of the city. A second auction on Thursday features five stock and farm equipment at Groves disposal site 3 miles south and 4 miles west of Clare, or 2 miles east of Wood's store.
B J Weaver announces an auction at his farm fourteen miles south of West Grant school. The listing appears next week in the local schedule.

Entomologist R H Pettit reports heavy corn ear worm activity in Michigan and neighboring states. Eggs are laid on fresh silk and the pest damages sweet corn ears. some worms overwinter in soil. Effective control cited is 60 percent arsenate of lead applied as silk emerges. Eggs do not survive in seed. future worm numbers depend on parasites and next year’s conditions.
Neighbors found the Naftzgers’ west Third Street house on fire around 4:00 am. Firefighters fought the blaze, delays due to nonconnected new apparatus, and the cause remains a mystery as the residents were away visiting relatives. The loss is largely covered by insurance.
Oliver Gordon Mills son of Mr and Mrs Morey Mills was born in Parnell January 28 1921 and died at home October 5 1921 after several weeks of whooping cough. Death caused by cholera and anis acid poisoning. Survived by parents one sister and two brothers. Funeral service held from the home Friday Rev B.in berry of Clare officiating and burial in Farwell cemetery.
The young people of Herrick will stage the home talent play Dr. Barton's New Perscription at Owens Church two miles south of Andersonville School Friday evening October 14 at 8 p m standard time.

A Halloween dance is planned at Duncen's Hall for Hallowe'en night. Excellent music has been engaged for the evening and a fine time is assured.
James Martin Kennedy a long time Isabella County pioneer died October 7 1921 at age 80 in Mt Pleasant He was born April 7 1841 in Ostrol Ohio and married Harriet Foreman in 1866 Surviving children include six sons two daughters two brothers one sister fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren The funeral was held at his home and interment at Chippewa cemetery Clera residents attended with R A Leffingwell and family among others He was a devout Methodist and later a member of the Baptist Church.
Dr Bradley of Saginaw appears Tuesday night at the Congregational Church at eight o clock addressing The Salvaging of Civilization. Admission is free with a free will offering to cover expenses. The talk aims to attract a broad audience including women and non believers.

Leaders announced plans for 1921 focusing on Practical Practice and Music and Art, while members discussed forms of government and the idea of Americanism through Emma Lazarus's inscription.

Last Sunday at the All State versus Gladwin game players received new heavy grey wool sweaters ordered through Thompson Elden Bogardun. The design features a navy diamond outline with an O in the center on the front as a token of appreciation and to keep Clare involved in baseball.
Deputy State Game Warden Pettit reports a new Michigan law tightening deer hunting rules and ferret possession. It removes township ferret age votes, making possession prima facie evidence without permits, and sets a $50 minimum fine for violations.
The Good Literature Club met Oct. 4 at Mrs. Mable Dixon Jones’s home with most members present. Chairwoman Mrs. Stella Lampman led a program on operatic music and French literature, with reviews of Verdi’s Rigoletto by Mrs. Mable D. Jones and readings on early French history and literature by several members. Miss Hazel Archambault’s Chanson de Roland was praised as a fine storytelling piece. The group adjourned to meet Oct 18 with Mrs. Stella Lampman.
In loving memory of our beloved son and brother William O Dingman who died at Camp Custer October 14 1918. The verse expresses enduring sadness and longing as time passes with the family hoping for a reunion. Mr and Mrs Wm Dingman and family sign the notice.

The Michigan Sunday School Association holds its Olet Annual Convention in Kalamezoo October 26 27 and 28 with A E Ramsden leading committees and three daily programs. Round trip rail fare is secured and all interested in religious training in Michigan are invited to attend. The Grand Rapids Wholesalers arrived in Clare on an expedited train with the Grand Rapids band providing music and a brief reception amid minor disruptions.
The body of Sergeant Walter A. Larman, Clare’s only soldier to fall in France, arrives from France and is taken to the American Legion rooms. It lies in state until Sunday afternoon at 1 36 then escorted to St. Cecelia church for a 2 00 funeral service by Rev Fr Flanagan, with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery beside his mother.
After months of suffering the death of Master Georgie Knight occurred Monday evening at his mother's home on East 5th Street. The Rev Badgley officiated at the service and the remains were laid to rest in Charry Grove. The obituary will appear next week.
