Farwell Schools Chief Resigns After Millage Defeats

Harold Elenbaas, longtime superintendent of Farwell Area Schools since 1963, resigns effective June 30 1977 amid three millage defeats that forced half day sessions. The entire board also resigns. a special election is set for October 25 with 11 mills on the ballot.

Clare School Board Keeps Vending Machines At High School

The Clare School Board approved continuing soft drink and candy machines at the high school with plans to improve item selections such as fruit juices and nuts. They also approved a sixth hour study hall, a driving privilege form, an interscholastic athletic handbook, adding Girls Volleyball, and flu shots for staff. A French Club trip was tabled and a public budget hearing was set for November 8.

Mid Michigan CC Trustees Approve 1976 77 Operating Budget

The board approves a 2 370 255 operating budget for 1976 77 as of October 5 led by Dean George Miller. Enrollment drives the rise from 1 831 029 last year with 1 400 on campus and more late start classes. New hires include Associate Dean Violet Rea and supervisor Donald Case. An equipment grant of 5 301 funds welding food service and other departments.

Clare High School hosts week of Homecoming festivities

The Clare High School Homecoming runs October 25 to 30 with a spirit week led by the cheerleaders, a snake dance and bonfire on Thursday, and a Friday assembly at 1 30 p m announcing Homecoming Queen and King. Parade follows at 2 30 p m. Queen candidates include Cathy Johnson Shelia Beatty Shelley Bindschatel and Julie Lloyd with three underclass representatives. Openings for parade remain at the high school office. The football game Friday features Clare vs Chippewa Hills.

Farwell Candidates Night Held for School Board Votes

Farwell Area Schools hosts Meet the Candidates Night at Farwell High School at 7 30 p m October 8. Twenty seven candidates compete for six Board of Education seats with individual meet and discuss sessions for electors. A second event October 21 at Community Hall Lake George 7 p m features more candidates as voters decide on 11 mills operational in the year fourth millage vote after earlier rejections.
