Clare Chamber of Commerce launches first Fall Festival
The Clare Chamber of Commerce plans a three day Fall Festival starting Friday October 15 at Ye Olde Barn on North Isabella Road. Events include square dancing with three callers from Wayland, color tours through pine and hardwood areas with watermelon stops, town wide church services, parades and trailer caravans, and a snowman building contest. 1971 Class Funds Stay In School Coffer
Clare High School officials refused a request by the 1971 graduating class to transfer 422.78 from the school treasury to Citizen's State Bank. The State Board of Education deemed student activity accounts quasi public and not transferrable out of the district. Superintendent Richard Snyder noted this recurring issue and said past classes have donated funds to the next class or to student projects.

Banks in Harrison Gladwin to Merge Form Mid Michigan Bank
The 88 year old State Savings Bank of Harrison and First State Savings Bank of Gladwin will merge before year end. Shareholders approved the merger nearly unanimously, combining assets of about 23 million dollars and changing the names to Mid Michigan Bank.
