Annual Community Fair Planned by Local FFA Chapter
Clare F F A Chapter No 110 met in the Agriculture room for their second meeting of the school year. Regular meetings will be held biweekly. Walter Kleiner was elected delegate to the Tenth National FFA Convention in Kansas City October 17 22 1937. Membership rose from 27 to 35 with Green Hand initiation planned. Thirty boys completed crop and live stock projects under advisor J Q Hansen. The Third Annual Community Fair is planned for November 10 during American Education Week with premium lists next week.

Vernon man in fatal head on crash while delivering welfare goods
James Lloyd of Vernon escaped serious injuries when his truck collided head on with a Detroit car on a hill six miles south of Roscommon. The crash killed one man and badly injured another man and a woman. both vehicles were severely damaged.

Temple Man Serves Thirty Days Jail Time For Assault
Chester Gagnon was placed in the county jail for thirty days to reflect on his conduct and given a ninety day probation, following an incident at Temple’s Gagnon home. He allegedly struck his wife with a brush and a fist, wounding her forehead. Mrs. Gagnon had obtained a divorce in circuit court last term. Hospital stitches were required and a guest, Mrs. Russell Weller, sustained bruises in defense of Mrs. Gagnon.

Large black bear causes excitement in Visit 10 city
Sunday noon excitement spread in eastern Visit 10 when Ila Sutton spotted a large black bear at the Sutton property after it moved from the cemetery through backyards to the White orchard and eastward. Tracks were followed but the bear was lost sight of. Monday night a Vernon farmer reported a sheep killed by a bear, suggesting the animal may have moved south into the township.

Opening of hunting seasons brings demand to Clare
The opening of small game hunting draws thousands to Northern Michigan with Clare as a key stop for provisions, clothing, blankets, ammunition, and licenses. Duck season starts October 9, pheasant partridge and rabbit hunts on October 15.
