A Michigan message warns the public that loss of federal airport aid could follow if Proposal No 1 is defeated. It explains funding relies on a 3-cent aviation gasoline tax and state matching, urging support to retain federal and state shares for airports and aeronautical facilities.
Residents of Clare invited to a 7 30 p m meeting at the high school to join the Clare Little Theatre Group. All interested in theatre roles, stage management, makeup, costumes, sets, and promotion may attend. Mr Jo P Goggit will lead, bringing twenty years directing experience.
Vernon Grange hosts a care party card game evening on Wednesday October 9 at 9:00 PM with all welcome. Lunch will be served.
Adolph J. Fortin of Flint was laid to rest at Clare Cemetery in Cherny Grove with the American Legion Fisher Body Post conducting the service. Fortin, 52, died from an accident at the Fisher plant and funeral services were held in Flint. He was born in Chicago May 27, 1894 and served in World War I. He leaves wife Mabel son Jack and three sisters. Clare relatives include Mrs. Henderson and Manuel Sutton.
Veronca Jean Mount Robinson died September 25 1946 at her daughter’s home in Boyne Falls Michigan aged 63 years four months and four days Born May 21 1883 in Gilmore Township Isabella County she lived in Boyne City area for 25 years She married James W Robinson June 27 1906 in Clare Survived by husband three daughters and one son four grandchildren and many relatives Funeral services were held September 28 at the Boyne Falls Methodist Church with Rev J Marion DeVinney officiating Burial in Gilmore Cemetery Isabella County
The Girl Scouts and their mothers invite friends to a potluck supper on Tuesday evening October 8 at 8 30 at the Methodist Church.
The Michigan Photographers Society held its fall meeting at the Hotel Doherty in Clare on September 29 and 30 with the Sternaman Studio as host. Highlights included lighting talks by Ansco representative Paul William Tanco and portrait demonstrations, an evening banquet, and awards for member photographs including a Gold Seal. Officials elected: Edward D. Rentschier president, Charles M. Cameron vice president, AlfEn EB. Arnold secretary-treasurer.

Mort Gallagher defeats Dick Hartshorn in the consolation finals at Clare Country Club to close the 1946 golf season. An earlier misquotation noted Henry Doll defeating Jim Grove. Grove did not play in the second flight, drawing a bye first and beating Ace Parker to win that flight.
Highteen women golfers met at Glaze Country Club for a luncheon and elected officers for the next season. President Mrs Bowler Vice President Mrs Lange Secretary Treasurer Mrs Titus Sports Chairman Mrs Haley Handicap Chairman Mrs Elder. Acknowledgment was given to Mrs Lange for handling dual roles. Prizes will be awarded at a forthcoming banquet.
The State Vocational Rehabilitation Office traces its Clare origins in 1948 as a sub-office of Flint with Field Agent Joseph Shipman and limited staff. By March 1, 1944 it became a District Office then expanded space and staff through 1946, adding supervisors Ruth Montgomery Zella O'Dell Joyce Rottiers field agents Irl Nortor James Morton John Stewart and others as the service area grew.
Clare High School Pioneer football beat Standish 13-0 as Bud Rodabaugh scored from 12 yards and then 58 yards on a reverse. The Pioneers totaled 260 rushing yards while Standish relied on passing. Clare prepares to travel to Reed City and the second team opens its four game schedule next Wednesday.
Col Frank Holder a Lansing traffic analyst for the Michigan State Highway Department and executive VP of the Taft Memorial Highway Association underwent a successful major operation at Clare Hospital Tuesday morning and is convalescing satisfactorily. He was joined by his nephew DeWitt H. Roberts of Atlanta who remained until Thursday and then left for Lansing. Roberts heads Capitol News Service and writes Capitol Side Show, serving over 100 Georgia newspapers.
Mary P. Osborn retires after thirty years in education and public service. She taught in one room rural schools, Benzonia Public School, Freshman College at Clare, and served as superintendent Bates' secretary at Clare High. Now an interior decorator on Pine Street. Wilma Worstell succeeds her as secretary.
Raymond Smith was arrested and jailed on desertion charges by Sheriff Seaver Amble. He waived examination and was bound over to circuit court under a $500 bond after arraignment before Justice Archambault. Jasper and Allen were arraigned in Clare. Jasper pled guilty to drunken driving with fines, probation, and license revocation, while Allen faced disorderly conduct and also received probation and costs.
Mrs Fannie Mae Maltby widow of Thomas Maltby died at her Lake Michigan home after a lingering illness on Saturday September 28. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Lake with Rev Charles Patchard of Springport officiating. Survived by four sons Frank Kenneth Harry and Thomas at home and in California, a sister Flora Patanode of Cheboygan, two grandsons one granddaughter two great grandchildren and three nieces. One son Walter and a daughter Flora preceded her in death.
