Oil well in Vernon township yields 200 to 500 bpd
J. Wicklund completed the Durnin No. 4 well in Vernon township on Tuesday with an estimated 200 to 500 barrels per day. Morris Van Buren’s Bowman No. 4, in section 27 Vernon, also began completion Tuesday with water in the upper Dundee. Operators plan to go deeper.

Thieves broke in through the back door of the Dixie Villa gas station on east 4th street around two o clock in the morning. They struck a man with a blackjack and stole cash from the till and pockets before fleeing. Oden was briefly injured and later treated at Clare County General Hospital.

Ram Truck Makes Seventh Visit To County
The Ram Truck of the Michigan purebred Sheep Breeders Association visited the county last Friday. Forty rams across medium, coarse and fine wool breeds were shown for local sheep men to select from, with exchanges and six sales from the truck plus one by exchange. A Shropshire sale occurred, and a notable Oakford transfer occurred as a prior ram sold in 1934 returned to Oxford breeders. The visit educated northern sheepowners on quality, emphasizing low set thick rams, improving lamb crops and market appeal. Hoban, long time Detroit lamb salesman, spoke on grading and terminal market bidding to secure top prices. County Agricultural Agent P. D. Gibson reported.

Last Rites Held for Julius Hoffman in Clare
Julius Hoffman died after a brief illness at Milam hospital. His body was brought to Clare where funeral services were held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock from the Thurston Funeral Home. He lived in Clare for many years and owned property on East 7th Street.

Conservation car to visit Clare with Michigan dioramas
The Wolverine rail car arrives in Clare October 8 at 8 14 a m and leaves October 9 at 8 14 a m. Vernon Landmark Destroyed by Fire at Carmichael Farm
Last Saturday afternoon a rural fire unit battled a fast spreading blaze at the Carmichael farm three and a half miles south of Clare. The log house, built over five decades ago by Duncan Carmichael, was largely destroyed despite efforts to save nearby buildings including a residence and Wickland Oil Co. offices. The landmark held significance for the Carmichael family and local residents Mrs. John Brief and Daniel Carmichael.

Two Men Injured in Clare Street Auto Crash
Two men, Robert J. Wilson and A. Desormeau, were struck by a car driven by Albert Tomaski while crossing McHiwan street near the Citizens State Bank. Wilson suffered two broken ribs and a broken leg. Desormeau had a fractured skull and concussion. Both were taken to Clare County General Hospital. Tomaski is held for further questioning after a hearing.
