Clare marked the twelfth anniversary of the Armistice with a ceremony arranged by the Walter H. Larman Post of the American Legion. Flags lined McEwan Street as business paused at 10:30, the high school band led a parade to the auditorium, and Rev. Hurd offered a prayer. Mrs. A. E. Mulder spoke of the Legionaire’s duty in 1917 and recalled war efforts, while noting women’s sacrifices and lessons learned from the conflict.

Third Month Test Highlights in Clare Dairy Herd
The Clare Dairy Herd Improvement Association completed its third monthly test on October 17 with 165 cows tested and 45 dry. Two cows exceeded 50 pounds butterfat for the month, Perry Geeck owns top three year old cows at 41.4 and 47.5 pounds, Geeck also has high mature cow at 55.1 pounds. Welch records two cows at 54.4 and 49.5. Bert Scott and Son lead small herds at 27.87 fat average. RH Welch and Geeck top seven to fifteen cow herds at 30.68 and 29.54. Large herds see Howard Penrose at 19.94 and Cornwell Ranch second at 427 pounds fat average.

Sacred Concerts Unite Clare Glee Clubs Across Towns
The combined high school boys and girls Glee Clubs, aided by Marion Lake City McBain and Cadillac musicians, form a chorus of 100 voices presenting sacred concerts. A Marion concert occurred last Sunday with a McBain show slated for next Sunday at the Presbyterian church. The McBain program, directed by Mgr Francis J Radey and George Boyd, features doxology, invocations, anthems, solo numbers by Melissa MacLeod Elizabeth Masselink Maud Lewis and others, and a closing hymn and prayers with multiple soloists and accompanists listed.

Clare Young Man Dies at Bay City
Mirl Wilson age 24 died at Samaritan hospital Bay City Wednesday about noon following an appendicitis operation four weeks earlier. The deceased was brought to Clare and laid at the grandmother Mrs Emma Wilson home four miles south of Clare for funeral Saturday at two in the afternoon.

Mt Pleasant will host a Saturday May 23 festival with about 200 uniformed musicians from local bands. Newell H. Long presided with George G. Boyd R A Yoder and Theodore Nicholson among attendees. The Rotary well reports 1372 feet depth with casings set and drilling to resume today. McKay Mercier well near 1000 feet, while road repairs to the wells impede travel.
