American Education Week is designated for November 8 to 14 with the theme Education for Free Men. Daily topics include open house for parents, lectures, department exhibits, and student events tied to war-time needs and civic ideals. Clare County Red Cross Chapter to Meet Monday

The Clare County Red Cross Chapter holds its November meeting at 2 30 pm in the VFW rooms at the courthouse in Harrison. Materials for sewing and knitting are scarce and much work is expected of county units soon. All unit chairmen and members are urged to attend to accomplish as much as possible. This duty must not be neglected by the women of Clare county.

Clare County War Rationing Board announces county wide A card registrations next Thursday to Saturday November 12 13 14 in city schools Clare Harrison and Farwell and rural schools on November 12 and 18. Applicants must present owner signed application license plate certificate use tax stamp tire serials and answer about tire totals. A cards grant about sixteen gallons monthly. B and C card procedures to be announced.

Rural Clare County reports four CD meetings this week with leaders Ben Burdo Conrad Walker and Ina Mary Young presenting on first aid, war time nutrition and traffic control during blackouts. Attendees were urged to recruit others and attend next Monday and Wednesday sessions at Temple Lake Clare School and local town halls to view motion pictures and continue organization work.

Arthur Parrish Dies in Clare at 54

Arthur Wallington Parrish a longtime Clare resident died at his home on west Fifth street Tuesday at 2:00 a clock. Born August 6 1888 in Vernon township Isabella county Michigan he lived most of his life in the area. He served eight years as Alderman and five as Mayor Pro Tem and was a member of John Q Look Lodge No 404 F and A M. Survived by his wife Freida son Lionel two brothers and a granddaughter. Funeral services were held at the Church of God with burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery Thurston and Son in charge.

County Reaches October Goal of War Bond Sales

Clare county surpassed its $29,100 October quota for War Savings Bonds with strong end of month totals. Local outlets including Citizens State Bank Clare and Clare Post Office led purchases, aided by a $5,000 county board of supervisors bond buy during October.

Red Cross Roll Call Delayed to 1943 War Fund Campaign

The Red Cross Roll Call scheduled for November 1942 is postponed to coincide with the next War Fund Campaign in early 1943. A prior $50 million War Fund was oversubscribed by $20 million, delaying the local appeal until Red Cross Month in March. Contributions will be allocated between the national organization and chapters based on each chapter’s budget share.

Bell Telephone Pays 1 691 371 of Primary Fund

Michigan Bell Telephone Company made the second half of the 1941 property tax payment totaling 1 691 871 65 to the Primary School Fund. The first half of 3 382 743 was handed to the state on June 30. The fund supports Michigan public schools by census-based allocation.

G O P Sweeps State with New Governor and Legislature
