Farmers' Night Draws 200 at Clare Chamber Event

More than two hundred members and guests of the Clare Chamber of Commerce attended Farmers' Night at St. Cecilia's Church social parlors. The program featured Rev. Fr. Brophy, toast master J. Stuart Bicknell, humorist George O'Brien, musical acts, and remarks by Chet Richard and Ford Leibt. An upcoming Hunters' Round-up was announced for November 18.

Halloween Party Delights Local Children At School

Tuesday October 31st brought the community together as high schoolers watched Mokey at the Ideal Theatre in the morning and lower grades joined in the afternoon. Evening activities featured a bonfire wiener roast and races on the lit school field with prizes awarded to top finishers in multiple grade groupings.

Dr A E Mulder Honored for Fifty Years of Service in Clare

Longtime Clare dentist Dr. A E Mulder celebrated fifty years of service. He arrived in 1894 after earning his D D S at Ann Arbor and built a career in education, banking, and church work. A fellowship supper in his honor was planned at the Methodist Church with Dr Lainer as guest speaker.

Time schedules explained for Clare war time change

Since the time change last Sunday there is confusion. Mail service train and bus schedules operate on Eastern War Time while the post office hours run 7:00 am to 6:00 pm weekdays and 5:00 pm Saturday on Central War Time. Dow buses follow the same slow time as before.

Clare National Honor Society Holds Tenth Annual Meeting

The Clare Chapter of the National Honor Society held its tenth annual meeting on Friday October 27 at Gleason's with dinner at 6 30. Twenty six members and guests attended. Frances Morgan vice president presided. Officers elected Merle Samborn president Harold Brooks vice president and Virginia Maxwell secretary and treasurer. A planning committee was named for a November business meeting and letters to those in service. Initiation will occur at Commencement. Afterward the group attended the Ewart Clare football game.

Mrs Mary Howard Laid At Rest In Local Cemetery

Mrs Mary Howard died October 25 1944 after a three year illness at age 72. She married Nelson D Howard November 15 1895 in Lapeer Michigan and had two daughters Gertrude Faught and Ana Tubbs and a son Earl Genève Illinois. Funeral services were held October 29 at Doherty Funeral Home with Rev Leah Gardon officiating. Interment followed in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Armistice Day Program Planned by American Legion Group
