Emma Niemeyer dies after long illness in Clare
Emma Niemeyer 62 dies Monday at Clare Hospital after four weeks as patient and prior illness. Born October 2, 1879 near Hinkle Mill, she lived in Clare for 38 years and worked for Union Telephone and Citizens State Bank before eyesight failed. She supported her parents, belonged to White Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star, and is survived by brothers Charles and Roy. Funeral held at Thurston Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Watson and Zenobia Chapter aid. Burial at Cherry Grove cemetery.

Two Seriously Injured as Car Turns Turtle
Two young men were seriously injured Friday afternoon when their car left the road in the western part of the city and overturned in the driveway of the Dominic McConnell home. The 1937 Plymouth was demolished. Driver Edsel Pelcher, 21, of R-2 Clare, had brain concussion and a fractured jaw and was moved to the Veterans Hospital at Dearborn. Passenger James Pego, 18, of Mt. Pleasant, suffered an intracapsular fracture of the right femur and was taken to the University Hospital at Ann Arbor for several months of treatment.
