Burning permits may be required in southern counties
Extension of the permit-for-burning system to southern Michigan wildlands is under consideration to curb brush and grass fires. The current Allegan area rules would expand to Barry Tuscola Cass Gratiot and Saginaw counties with fire breaks weather checks and written permits issued by the forest fire division of the department of conservation. Fire towers and a suppression force would be necessary though access to all burning would be hard in agricultural regions. No change in state fire law would be needed.
