Two gas filling stations were entered after 1 40 a m by robbers aiming to outfit a car. At Cities Service station entry was made through a ventilator vent. Tires and tubes were stolen and fingerprints collected as investigators work with state police and sheriff to catch local suspects.

Joseph A. Kitchin, Clare Public School social science instructor and band director, won a fellowship in the University of Michigan political science department for the summer and next school year. He arrives in Clare in 1934 from Halleck Minnesota after teaching at Wahalla North Dakota. His degrees include A B from North Dakota and a master’s from Michigan. He led band and Choral Club efforts, rebuilding a Hanover area group after losses, and the clubs performed The Rose Maiden and The Seven Last Words of Christ.

State Highway Commissioner Murray D. Van Wagoner reports a 19 percent rise in traffic on the Straits of Mackinac ferries in May 1–15. The two boats carrying 3,510 vehicles this period compared with 2,948 last year, signaling a strong tourist season. Clare couple romance ends as groom arrested in Chicago
In Fort Wayne a 34 year old Detroit radio engineer Raymond Miller and 15 year old Clare high school student Jean Wasson wed after driving from Clare. Chicago officers detained Miller for enticing a minor for marriage, a Michigan breach of law. Miller is held on 2500 bond. marriage deemed illegal as consummation did not occur. A Packard sedan tied to Miller was seized after a fraudulent 1300 dollar check surfaced.
