City Sewerage System Completed Last Week
The Clare sewerage project, a one mile main outlet built over seventeen months, was completed last week. W H Barter supervised. Mannie Sutton was foreman. Over 3000 feet of sewer line laid with fifteen inch tile, starting near Mrs A J Clute’s east line and winding northeast to the Tobacco River. Forty five families connected after the gate was lifted. The project was a WPA effort with no injuries during construction.

Clare High School won two seconds in judging contests during Junior Farmer's Week at Michigan State College in East Lansing. The grain team Duane Archbold Jarvis Kapplinger and Frank Poet and the potato judging team Vernell Shaver Duane Archbold and John Haring competed May 7 and 8. Vernell Shaver will receive a model for individual excellence in potato judging.

Clare Rod and Gun Club oversees cleaning of rearing ponds eleven miles north of Clare on US 27. Next Tuesday 125000 Brook trout and 60000 Rainbow trout will be placed in troughs and fed until fall before being released to Clare County streams. Poppy Day Observed Nationwide with Poppy Distribution
Tomorrow Poppy Day will be observed in Glaze and across the United States with millions wearing memorial poppies. About one hundred thousand American Legion Auxiliary women will distribute flowers and collect contributions for disabled veterans and families. Walter H. Larman Unit leads local observance with Mrs. A H Wylie as chair. A volunteer corps from 6th to 8th grades will hand out poppies on downtown streets early tomorrow, aiming for wide participation. Commitment Services Held at Cherry Grove for Two Residents
Mrs Thressa Snell died and was moved from Flint to Clare for burial with services at Cherry Grove conducted by an out of town pastor. Mrs Atas McKinley also died and burial followed at Cherry Grove with a Grand Ledge pastor in charge. McKinley had lived in Grand Ledge with daughter Mrs Lyle Gidley for years.

Extension Club Achievement Day Closes Clare County Year
About 150 Home Economics Extension members met in Harrison for Clare County s sixth annual achievement day. Mrs Bessie Bradley presided. Miss Julia Pond from Michigan State College reported on activities. 159 members in 15 groups. Greenwood Center Mann Siding Lake and Hagle groups earned 100 percent certificates. Grace Williams elected county chairman with Stella Myers publicity chair and Baluss recreation leader. Afternoon program included Harrison high school orchestra and remarks by Ralph Tenny MSC director who urged family unity through shared meals. Certificates were presented by Estelle Nelson.

Six people injured Sunday when a rear tire blew out on Vernon Hill causing the car to leave the pavement and roll over several times en route to Sunfield Michigan.
