City Plans Observance of Memorial Day

Memorial Day events will be led by the Larman Post American Legion with graves decorated by flags. Businesses close 9:00 to 12:00. A parade forms at 8:45 Saturday at the city park and moves to the cemetery at 9:00 led by the Mount Peasant Indian band, with a program at the public school grounds ending with a benediction.

Opening of Hotel Doherty Soda Room Sparks Busy Weekend

Last Saturday morning Fred Do Herty announced the opening of the hotels soda room and sandwich shop. From ten to eleven in the forenoon and three to five in the afternoon he and clerks handed out hundreds of free cones to children and flowers to women customers. The corner store venue is attractively decorated with palms ferns and candies. An iceless soda fountain and a selection of confections fruits and sandwiches are offered as a convenient refreshment stop.

Special Examination For Absentees In Harrison

Asa H. Aldrich announces a special examination for seventh and eighth grade pupils unable to attend the regular state tests due to illness or quarantine. It will be held in Harrison on Monday and Tuesday June 8 and 9 1925 starting at 8:30 a.m. CST. Students must use legal cap paper and ink writing. sick or unavoidable absences only.

K O P Meeting a Big Success

The Knights led by Theron Dawson staged a knockout social last week with a surprise party for the brothers. The group predicts next week will top this showing as Brother Hochstetter heads the upcoming separe. The Clave Good Literature Club plans a banquet at Phelps Café on June 2 and notes dues will be handed to the secretary at year end.

Children Stage Fairy Operetta On Midsummer Day

Clary School grade pupils present On Midsummer Day in the high school auditorium. The 90 minute show features Fairy Queen and many garden characters with chorus numbers solos and dances. Tickets cost twenty five cents for adults and fifteen cents for children.

Two Autos Damaged In Tuesday Collision On McEwan Street

Tuesday afternoon a collision on McEwan Street between a foreign car and a Kelly Brothers Show car caused extensive damage to both vehicles but no injuries. The southbound foreign car claimed rights while the eastbound Kelly car entered from M20. Officials note trunkline traffic rules and question fault as neighbors discuss speed claims. Nearby notices mention Clare and Sheridan township residents visiting, plus an aged mother’s remembrance.

Rural fire truck funding nears completion

City firemen announce only 78 60 remains to fully fund the rural fire truck. Volunteers have foregone pay, contributing through fire response revenue so far. Rural firetruck misdirected by vague directions

A rural fire truck was sent three miles east of St Henry's Church in Vernon township and found no fire. After returning to the church and then heading west, the crew again had no information and came back to town. The next morning Chief Wellman learned the call was three miles east of Rosebush, details unknown.

William Horning Dies in Isabella County at 76

William Horning died Monday at his nephew H. L. Prout's home in Denver township Isabella county at age 76 years 11 days He had lived in Clare and vicinity for many years Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon with Rev EH Smith officiating and burial in Cherry Grove cemetery

New Water Proposal Offered to Saginaw

The Layne Bowler Co submits a plan to build the Clare water project to supply Saginaw with pure water from Clare. The city would lease the system for 10 years and may buy it at the end if output reaches 30 million gallons daily and meets original quality specs. Purchase price limited to bonded issue. Saginaw pays for use, maintenance, interest, and insurance.

Harrison State Park Opens for Summer at Budd Lake

Wilson State Park on Budd Lake at Harrison opened for the season on May 15 with major winter improvements by the State Conservation Department. A new bath house and concession building, built for the state by Walter Pettit, offers bathers private rooms and a beach on the east shore. Tony Achard has leased the concession, plans to open on Decoration Day, and will sell candies, cigars, soft drinks, and camping supplies with lunch and coffee served. Ten new tow boats will be rented, bathing suits available for rent, and no camping or bath house fees are charged. The park drew over 17 000 visitors last year from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and southern Michigan, and Budd Lake remains a noted black bass fishing site in northern Michigan.

Elephants and Wild Acts Highlight Gollmar Bros Circus Visit

Billy Sunday the elephant star cannot visit a beauty shop for a manicure so Marie Metchalf trims his nails. The Clare show on June 3 features Capt. Two Dandy Trout Caught Last Week

Last week George White caught the largest rainbow trout reported, measuring 22 inches and dressed three pounds. Frank Holmes was second with a 20 inch fish. Neither man claims expert status.

Ford Roadster Found Deserted Near City

A Ford roadster was found deserted one mile east and a quarter mile south, with two men stripping rear wheels and taking other parts as a second car approached. Isabella County sheriff notified. the vehicle with Michigan license 763-551 was brought to town for safekeeping.

Auto Goes Into Ditch Near Pratt Corners

Last Monday Carl Garchow drove toward the city when his touring car slid off the road into a ditch one mile east of Pratt's corners. His son Frederick had a slight hand cut and a small facial scratch but both escaped serious injuries and were only badly scared.

Circuit Court Busy Session Ends in Clare County

The May term of the Circuit Court for Clare county closed after a busy session. Jurors handled most cases through Wednesday night. Krahn and Klann were sentenced to eight months to a year in state prisons for transporting intoxicating liquor. Acquittals, guilty pleas, fines, divorces, and dismissals followed in various cases.

Dew Drop Inn Opens at John Presley Farm near Clare
