Year end banquet honors gateway ladies league
The Gateway Ladies Friday Night League held its year end awards banquet at Hotel Doherty with Margaret Bedard receiving floral centerpiece as she retires as association and league president. Prizes went to multiple members, with perfect attendance and trophy awards for Ed's Refinery and WIBC achievement recognized.

Clare High track team remains undefeated in league action
The Clare High School track squad stand 4 0 in the league after a 79 43 1 2 win over Manistee. They eye the May 26 conference meet with top marks by Bill Gillis 10 3 in the 100 and Joe Foss in the hurdles. They placed third at the Oscoda regional with Gillis winning the 100 and 220 and forming a strong 8 0 relay.

MMCC Baseball Improves to 8 1 Record
MMCC boosts season mark to eight wins and one loss after a doubleheader sweep of Great Lakes Bible College 14 3 and 10 3. Rick Garrich earned the win in game one with Don Wright driving in a homer, while C C Hilliard pitched in game two with Garrich as catcher. The team then defeated Kirkland Community College 9 4 as Ernie Lane earned the win with Bernie McNerney homering in the third.

CHS moved to 9 3 after a week of strong showings. Bob Loren earned the win versus Big Rapids with 14 strikeouts on one hit allowed. Kel ly Luplow followed with an eight strikeout, two hit outing against Manistee. Loren also fanned 11 in the Chippewa Hills win, allowing two hits.

Tryouts for the senior division of Little League are scheduled at Clare High School baseball field Saturday May 20 at 3 p m. The league covers ages 14 15 and 18. Players who played last year are exempt. those who did not must attend to be eligible.
