Monday morning Mrs. John Nelson received a telegram from the American Red Cross stating that the Clare County quota must be doubled to help care for the homeless in the Mississippi flood district. Mrs H C Stevens Dies After Long Illness
After months of illness Mrs. H C Stevens died at home Wednesday at midnight at age sixty nine. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM from M B Church with Rev B T Smith officiating. Burial follows in Cherry Grove cemetery. An obituary will appear next week.

City Fathers OK Library Tax and Street Upgrades
At the Monday City Council meeting a resolution to levy a one half mill tax for library maintenance was adopted. The council approved replacing a two inch water main on east Seventh street with a four inch line and reusing the two inch on Maple street extension. A request to place a street light on east Third street was referred to the street committee. A storm sewer from city hall to Highth street was deemed necessary and to be addressed this summer.
