Accident Claims Life Of Farwell Man George H Battleshaw
George H Battleshaw age 44 of near Weidman in Gilmore township died after a two car head on collision two miles south of Farwell on Vandecar Road around 8 40 p m Sunday. Three others were injured but not critically with Battleshaw’s wife Hazel Curtis and two Van Buskirk family members treated at Clare General Hospital. Police say Battleshaw crossed the centerline into the path of Madelyn Van Buskirk and the crash remains under investigation.

Farwell PTA Sets May Meeting On Special Education

Clare fire crews answered two transformer sparked blazes at Gateway Restaurant and Twin Elms, with minor damage from rain entering power lines. In Clare two people injured by flying glass as a large window collapsed during the storm, injuring Mrs. Edward Pudway and Clifford Skyring. Storm damaged Bottling Plant roof, disrupted phone service across several towns, and a radar sighting sparked a tornado scare that did not materialize.

Clare teacher saves two from carbon monoxide danger
Mrs. Carl Kistler, a Clare schoolteacher, rescued two unconscious children aged 10 months and two years from a gas poisoned car near Clare. She removed them to open air and massaged them back to consciousness with the parents, preventing probable death. The family, en route to Washington state, had wandered off the expressway.

Lucy Murchie BE a former Clare resident who had lived and worked in Freeland died Tuesday morning after a long illness at Central Michigan Community Hospital. He was 55. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 2:00 pm at Clare Methodist Church with burial in Cherry Grove.
